Win 2000 install

To all those who would like a challenge.

I am currently installing windows 2000 pro on my system. every time it formats the harddisk it freezes. My system specs are:

CD-ROM: generic, average, old

no floppy

HDD: SeaGate, 40 gig, old, completely empty

Proccesor: AMD Athlon 2600 2.13 GHz, new

Average cpu temp: 56c

average system temp: 38c

Motherboard: FIC KT-748

RAM: 512meg

Pwrsupply: 400watt, 115volt

if you can answer the question i will be indebted to you, Thankyou.

yeah, it has to be the hard drive, you will want to get that replaced.

Seagate's are great and the original Windows holders, it's fine.

For one, look over the Win2k manual and make sure every brand your using is Windows 2000 compatible... but it looks completely fine to me..

What OS do you already have installed?

How exactly are you trying to format your computer? With fdisk...or just format C:\

same man, different username; its the win 2000 installer formatting it into NTFS during setup

What OS do you have installed at this moment?

And try using FAT or FAT32 whichever it supports... might have smaller space, but hell, if it works, it works. NITS should work though...

now ive gotten past formatting and into hardware recognition but it blue screens and freezes

Blue Screen = Unstability
Only a few things can cause this:
-Overclocked
-Too much heat being produced


Is your ram fast enough for your processor? (it should be PC2700+ ram)

i have win 98 on this old comp but its really slow
its not permanent its just an old harddrive stuck in an old and extra system

Never try putting new OS's onto temporary hard drives(if it's a bad one), they're very unstable and might damage or corrupt your disk.

yah it has spectek 512 pc2700 memory i have diferent harddrives and im trying them

ok i have a 30 gig from my old comp but i need to transfer files from there to the new drive whatever it may be because, no matter what im installing 2000. i have a thumbdrive and might be able to use it so does anyone know where outlook adress books are.
