Just curious of what the real difference between an Intel processor and AMD processor. I have an Intel but am thinking of trying an AMD. Which is better?

There's really no noticable difference between the two, except price :)

Yeah, but the new P3 EE is faster than the FX-51 in the new bench marks.

AMD is better for games, and the Athlon XP 2500+ and higher (up to 3200+) with the Barton core can be overclocked by a GIGAHERZ!!!(this depends on each individual processor), with the right cooling...(i.e. coolermaster aerolite 7 lite/7+ or coolermaster jet 7). AMD is also a lot cheaper.

Pentium 4 on the other hand is much more expensive and is much harder to overclock(u cant adjust the multyplier, so u have to mess aqround with the FSB/RAM frequencies, and voltage etc....in order to find the right balance and to overclock it most efficiently). P4 is more for bussiness applications and office use.

So get AMD ;)

amd started out as a cheap version of intel.

you want speed-- get amd
you want reliability- get intel.

I was between same thing when i got my cpu. i chose realiability. its no use if your games are great until the computer decides to crush on you and give you tons of errors.

i prefer a tad slower but at least i know it wont crash on me.

i wouldnt advise a 64-bit processor. they are supposed to get 40% increase for 32-bit applications (I was at the sneak peak a year ago, i was one of the first people out of 100 to see it :) god bless millionmanlan) but the price is not worth that 40% increase of performance really. and there arent any 64-bit applications out yet to show off this new chip, so stick with the 3200+ barton until the software catches back up with the hardware.

from my knowledge AMD is cooler than Intel... and there are ultra quit Socket A fans... Coolermaster Aero lite/7+, Jet 7 and Zalman xxxxxxxCu (cant be bothered to look up the exact name :p). and they are easyer to install, all u have to do is screw 4 screws onto the motehrboard... Intel u have the hassle with the clips, i broke my fan with that POS system(still have that fan, just chipped a clip off, but it still holds :p)
