You've ever watched complete defragmentation?

Kinda thought this one up waiting for my Operating System partition to finish defragging so I could get to bed while my D: drive began defragging.

My C: partition's about 3GB, so that's my record so far.
(I don't have specs for my HD other than this was a 3GB partition of my 30GB HD. It's a laptop, so they didn't really bother giving me all the specs for it when I built it, but post your HD specs as well.)

It does not count if you do other things while you're defragging. You have to actually stare at your computer and watch the little lines jump all over the place.

You are also automatically disqualified if you've defragged within the last 30 days.

Last time I did it: 3 hours 45 minutes

40GB, 21GB consumed. 7200rpm HDD, P4 1.8Ghz and 256MB SDRAM.,

Place your specs too.

Just for a little fun, I scanned my computer for viruses after that (1 hour 45 minutes) so I wasted 5 hours 30 minutes of my life.

D'oh.

Is that the equivalent of watching the hardware Olympic line gymnastics?

My computer regularly crashes. Instead of defragging I just format and install a new OS. It seems to work out fine.

hmm... 2x 40gb:
3 partitions, 1 = 17 2 = 22 3 = 40.
Took around 5 hours for all the defragging to complete.

I used windows defragger once on my regular 40... Took bloody 2 days :(

Though a huge hard drive is a temptation for a packrat such as myself, I don't think I would trust a hard drive bigger than 120 gig.
Face it, if you have 300+ gig of stuff and it crashes beyond recovery, not only do you lose all of your music, but look at all the porn you just just lost.
A whole weeks worth of surfing for some gone in a few seconds.

But even at 120 gig, if I set my system to defrag, as well as optimize in the same process, it takes well over night sometimes.

200GB total (80GB + 120GB) and it takes me about 6 hours for both of them.

For those of you who run multiple hard drives, (I used to run 5...now I have 2), this is a very useful script. It defrags all hard drives in sequence instead of you having to wait for one to finish and then start the next. This is how I get both of mine done and go to sleep while its doing it :D
