What is the best gear for a hammerdins merc????

On a act 2 holy freeze def merc.

Gives good boost to def, adds armor that freezes and slows any attacker.
Duel leech, psn damage with freeze aura. Most will die within seconds. If it ever dies, the psn nova will destroy all around. Oh and will give lvl 17 (perfect insight) meditate for mana regen

on a lvl 70ish merc
3-6k def depending on armor def
3-4k damage depending on the weapon damage
all resist at 75 or higher

Keep merc at same lvl as the Hmmerdin, if you have trouble rebuying him to keep the lvl try cowing him. Let merc kill all, and it will gain 1-3 lvls per run.
norm - till about lvl 50-60
nm - whenever it can survive (prefered with gear) till lvl 70
hell - rest. (if this is too m uch for merc try nm act 4 all for chaos run)

Andy's helm is ok but I don't care for the - to fire resist. Why take that over something with no negatives mods.

If ur not that rich,just use
Obedience(pretty cheap and its not a bad rw)
Use armors like eth stone, or fort.
and if u cant get eth gaze like me, just use norma gaze.

Insight for weap...
For armor: Coh or fort is good.. (if you cant affort use armors like: duriels, Shaft and stuff)
For helm: If using Armor with no dr% then use a Gaze with ber, or Coa Ber-ber or Ber- Cham.. (if you cant affort just use a gaze without ber .. (Edit: also if you can get the stuff in eth, then its better...
The idea about having a Psn die facet in merc's helm, is stupid. Cus you dont want merc to die so you can get a bad Psn nova, you want him to survive.

Poison and Cold (Aka Slow death) is a great combo of elemental damage. The psn Nova is their as a bonus, and IN CASE the merc dies. (With the propper gear it will not as long as the main character stays alive.

Obedience is a good runeword, but, not too useful for a hammerdin, compared to Insight. Hammerdins need the meditation aura for the mana regen. Obedience is geared more for a sorc merc.

Hear is a listing of what works well on act 2 mercs:

Helm:
Giant Skull
Dream Runeword
Gaze (duel leech and DR)
Crown of theves
Anything that adds life leech, Damage reduction, or Faster attack

Armor:
Shaftstop (Upped preferred, great DR in combo with Gaze)
Fortitude or Chains of Honor (Best armors)
Stone (Insane Def)
Duress (Good mods to damage)

Weapons:
Reapers Toll
Bonehew
Insight (Best for hammerdins, due to Meditation aura)
Breath of the Dying (for high damage)

and yea, perf merc gear generally consists of:
eth gaze/dream
eth fort
eth insight/doom/botd war pike/reaper's toll (usually people use reaper's toll if they're poor)
