Why do you think Iron. Just wondering because you dont give a reason for it...
By the way, I think Golems are next to useless for Necros. They are only good as Meatshields. Skeletons with Might/Thorns/Amp are the main killers for you. Since you have to put at least one point in all golems except Fire to get revive, I suggest using a clay golem for the %slow target. This works well on bosses as they tend to only attack the golem and not your Skeles. Recast as he dies.

Uhmm, only the Golem gets thorns...? I could be mistaken, but last time I played, only the Golem displays the aura and it only works when monsters hit him. Correct me if Im wrong...

[Edit] Since your poor, their is an easy way of getting thorns, but it is costly to your build. You would have to use an Edge bow. This is a reletively easy bow to make, but takes away from your +skills. It is simply a manner of preference. The more expensive way would be to have your Merc use a Bramble armor...

Thorns on the Iron golem is not an aura, cuz it works only on the golem.

Iron golem is the best only if you have plenty of high runes to use, and you summon it from a beast axe, to make him have the fanaticism aura. But if he dies (or if you die), you will loose all the runes, so it's a very expensive solution.

But now there are some cheap runewords with good auras like Sanctuary or Meditation that can be helpful if you summon a golem from an item with those runewords.

Oh, you don't have to max the iron golem if you choose to use it: max golem mastery instead, and put 1 point into summon resist.

However, if you don't like the iron golem solution, use Clay golem. It has the ability to slow enemies of a very good %, so it's very useful in boss fights and it's very helpful cuz it's a great meat shield... it has tons of life, if you max it (in this case max the golem, not the mastery).

Clay for a summoner. Summoners can have over 40 minions in his army and with an Iron golem with thorns only affecting him, the chance of the golem getting hit isn't the best.

Clay slows down the enemy and has a higher life [even though you simply re-cast him if he does die].

I like the enemy slowdown. But if you'r successful with Iron, then go with it. The golem won't make a difference if your Summoner is built well anyway.
