What games will stand out and be remembered as classics?

xbox360games

New Super Mario Bros. (Mario returns to 2D, in a very fun and creative platformer. Started the return of Mario)

Twilight Princess (Time will be kinder to this game, much like TWW, public perception will raise in approval over the years)

Wii Sports (Very simple, but I think the simple fun will be remembered fondly, and this will probably be THE most played game this generation. It'll be remembered in the same vein as Pac-Man or other simple classics)

BioShock (A creepy, innovative, classic that was one of the first truly next generation games for me)

The Orange Box (One of the best deals in gaming history. Portal alone was worth 50 dollars, and every game is pure quality in it)

Super Mario Galaxy (So fun, creative, classic, well designed, whimsical...truly the best game this generation for me IMO)

Metal Gear Solid 4 (The perfect, dramatic end to one of gaming's best franchises)

Spore (Although it will maybe not be the highest praised in years to come, it will be well known for it's bold ideas and concepts

Bioshock wasn't really groundbreaking. Neither was Twilight Princess. The games that will be remembered are the ones that change the ways things are done and are extremely innovative. So that kinda rules out Bioshock and Twilight Princess. Portal is probably the coolest game to have come out in the past five years. Spore stands out because it's different. It's not a bad game, it just doesn't have much longevity.

Spore isn't much game, as it is a demo of how it could be a game.

Bioshock was crap.

Twilight Princess was eh, mostly the same stuff as every other Zelda game with the use wii remote.

MGS4 I haven't played. I have a ps3 and the game sitting there, but on reflection of the last two games, I have no want to play it, because it is pretty bullshit. When I tried to explain the MGS story to someone it sounded so incredibly stupid I had to reevaluate it. Metal Gear Solid was probably one of my favorite games so who knows.

Wii sports showed what the wii should have down across the board, but it faltered and turned into a mediocre system. Third Party developers should have had a lot more time to develop games, because they all suck as is.
Portal is probably one of the best games ever made.

I didn't play enough of Mario Galaxy before my wii broke, but it started out really fun. Don't know about ground breaking or classic, but it was fun.

Until I played it, Crysis would have been on the list, but it kinda sucked in the whole "game" part.

Personally there hasn't really been a "classic" game in at least a decade. Most modern games are all bullshit, little more than fancy movies with a little bit of interactivity in between 30 minute cut scenes so everyone can point to the console and go "lol we are better than yours, we use (insert some random graphics improvement)". Everything is a sequel of a sequel. Even Blizzard hasn't had a new IP in ages. I don't think I have had a game stand out in my mind for so long it makes me a little depressed.

The one game if I had to give any sort of award to in recent years is rockband 2, mostly because it's refined the gameplay so much, and is engaging to pretty much everyone.

I believe that Shadow of the Colossus stands out pretty well. It was inovative and a fresh idea back on the ps2, and I think if it were to come out now on the current gen. of consoles it would be pretty awsome, but definatly a classic in my book. And as for blizzard not haveing any new ips, well when you have such a strong fan basis behind diablo and starcraft there really isnt a need for new ones.

the whole plot taking down the system was stupid. but for me the game works

if you want to beat the game. you will have a fun time. if you really want to beat the game(151 stars, blah blah) you will want to have a defibrillator around

depends on your age.. lol if you're as old as me, and have been gaming since Mario brother's was the biggest thing since sliced bread.. You might go with Doom.. Certainly Doom still has a huge market place even thought hey really haven't hit the market with anything incredible in a long while...

Uh...there's no way that Wind Waker or Majora's mask even hold a light to what OOT was. And I can't see TP being better than OOT, at all. Then again I've yet to play it for more than an hour.

Games that will be remembered as classics? Halo 1, KOTOR1, MGS4, Rock Band 1, that's really about it from the past two generations. Most other games are considered expendable in the long run.

I mean, you gotta remember what it'll take to be a classic and what not. Doesn't have to be groundbreaking or revolutionary, but it does have to be a game that people will play 20 years from now and go "damn, this game kicked ass for it's time". And if you disagree about any of those (rock band..ehhhhhh), then you're 100% wrong.
