remember the little pixel at the top center of the screen around where the banners are, that if clicked would bring you to a site that gave you tons of statistics?

Change templates then, and you'll see it. Why remove the stats link when it's kind of useful to check traffic? Surely some high-tech people around here could put it back into some of the templates. (Unless if you're all still too sucky to know how to do it.)
