I just thought of this after the guy with the guitar sig reminded me of grandia 2 Shadow something.

Do you like video games where the some of the good guys die? I think games where they die are way better. Cause you get attached and then kaboof they die off. It gives the game abit more realism. It also gives it some well needed drama. For I was blue for quite some time after merig died :usad .

What do you like better?

I think when a character of the story that is good dies, it adds a lot of depth and conflict in characters roles, and the storyline as well. You're referring to Shadow1psc2k I believe. FF7 is a good example of this. So is Legend of Dragoon. Lavits died, and was replaced by Albert, but also brought character conflicts, and more storyline questions, and just made the game more enjoyable for me.

Dying is part of being human. Therefore, I believe that death in games helps 'humanize' the characters. In general, games that DO allow main characters to die come across as more realistic to me.

Whether I like it or not? I wasn't exactly thrilled when Chrono died half-way through Chronotrigger, but I still loved the game. Nor was I particularly exuberant about Maxim and Selan both dying at the end of Lufia 2, but the ending sequence that followed made my throat constrict and almost brought a tear to my eye. Ark dies at the end of Terranigma... it goes on. Death, is a necessary evil in games.

In Planescape: Torment the main character's whole quest is to die, and stay that way. I once racked up over 300 deaths in the game, just because there is no real penalty. The main character is basically immortal. But that doesn't mean he can't be killed. Yeah, you die and such, but just pop back up. Going through the game beating the living daylights out of everything doesn't get you anywhere either. Gotta use your brain, as hard as that might be.

I like how they killed off Fayt's parents in SO3, and such. That just owned.
