Video card?

D2 wont work on my comp because it doesnt have a video card dirver or something like that (my comp failed the video test).....so should i just get a new video card and put in the CPU and then get a new monitor to benefit the new video card more or will that not work? cuase i really dont want to have to get a brand new 900 dollar computer

Woah boy, You just need to get a vidio card but if your computer is that outdated the newer video cards may not work.

my computer is a dimension xps and monitor is Gateway2000 and i read online that getting a good video card while using a shitty monitor (wee have a shitty monitor) would just be a waste of a good video card

well you also have to consider processer speed and how much ram you have. if you have a radeon 9700 (or whatever the new one is) with a crappy computer it wont do crap. you might want to consider reinstalling direct X and downloading the newest drivers for your computer...

i already restalled direct x7.0 several times now and that doesnt seem to help...i think i will take it to the people at "best buy" and see what they can do with it

you might want to try getting the latest drivers for your video card. more often then not thats the problem. alot of times tech help people will ask if you have the latest driver. also theres a newer version of directX out...

hmmm.....ok....ill try dl the latest drivers, it said dirextX7.0 would run d2 though....so im gonna stick with that.....could u maybe give me a link to a site where i can dl the lastest drivers?

I would try going to the site of the maker of your computer, they sometimes have the driver updates. If not the microsoft site has some too. And i suggest getting the newest version on direct x, it will make a bit of a difference. I have 8.1, but there may be a newer one by now.

ok i dl the newest version (directX9.0) into my computer and ran the video test, it said i had to install the latest video drvier now, wtf is that? any1 know where i can dl it?

well you'll need to go to gateways site and see if you can find the latest drivers for the type of gateway you have...

what exactly have u got in ur computer, what graphics card? is it agp or pci or onboard. what type of CPU u got? AMD, pentium how fast, more details help. i used to be able to run d2 on my old Pentium MMX 233mhz with like 8 mb of onboard graphics. now i got a nice AMD Athlon XP2100+ with a Leadtek GForce4 Ti4200 64mb ViVo and 256mb DDR RAM. get somthing like that and it will pur along. but most likely u got onboard video (which licks balls) but if u brought the computer from a retailer with everything already put together for u it should work, they should have put on all the l8est drivers. take it back if it no work, and get Direct X 8.1.

not sure about all that. i dunno know a ton about computers; uh my monitor is 'gateway2000' and CPU is a 'dimension XPS'....the only thing i know about it and d2 is it can past the video test...it says i must install a newer version of directX (which i have, i installed yesterday directX9.0).....then it says after that to download to the latest 'video driver'....thats my problem, i dont know what driver and where to find the one that i need...any suggestions?

did u buy it from a shop or over the internet? cause if u brought it from a shop simply take it back, they should have already done this for u, if not u need to find out what type of video card u have.

searcg for "SiSoft Sandra 2001 professional" download and install it, it will tell u every piece of information u will ever need to know about ur computer, one uve got that, maybe we can help
