What i want to see (i might have this in my current rpg, Worlds)
1) A story that doesn't stop when you don't complete a quest
2) Interactive environments
3) Units that "live" in the environment
4) An immense world that doesn't have a designated path you must follow
5) Training in a different way (not advancing to a new unit, or upgrading, but something totally new)
6) the ability to travel onto a different path (instead of helping those gay ass good guys constantly, why not be evil for half the game?)
7) Let the players have more to do than just the quests, make the game more fun!
8) A real world, not just an environment that is made for the quests, but a world that really has cities, that are re-used in the game
9) More fun in general.
