One thing I dont understand is the use of players other then p12. If we were never intended for using these players, why were they built in? It seems that SC is able to have many diffrent players and still remain stable including color and even viewing on the minimap. Originally, Blizzard used UMS for single player, but even then, its still melee. We have discovered a much deeper way of map making that was never ment to be used. Is it possible that blizzard wanted us to find these things or they got lazy and didnt delete the stuff we dont use.

I guess so, Blizzard also changed the player color of a player in a scenario. Brown -> White. Cant remember which scenario though..

The other players are there because they have to be. First off Player 9, 10, and 11 are used to control spells (Zerg Protoss and Terran). 12 is neutral of course. The reason there is 255 Players has to with the way computers read data. The Information for the Player numbers are stored in one byte. A byte consist of 8 bits, or On Off (0,1) data. Using 8 Bits you have 255 different combinations of On and Off. Each player is assigned to one bit thus there is 255 of them.

The Color # for yellow is 7. (See a short list of them in GUedit.) This is because the counting starts at 0. red is number 0 even though player one's default color is red.
