Here is a compiled list of emulators for various systems.

GameCube - Dolphin

Dolphin is the first Gamecube emulator able to run commercial games! Even at its early stage some games manage to load and run but not perfectly. Please remember that Dolphin is an experimental GameCube emulator so many games might not run and for the ones that do run you will need a strong PC.

Nintendo 64 - Project 64

Project64 is a Nintendo 64 emulator which at first seemed to have popped up out of nowhere. I had some trouble trying it myself as my PC doesn't meet the steep system requirements of Project64. Yet from what I have seen, if you have the right PC, Project64 will probably work better for you than any other Nintendo 64 emulator.

Game Boy/Advance - Visual Boy Advanced

Since the first version of Visual Boy Advance which lacked some major features (such as an interface), this Gameboy Advance emulator has progressed greatly. I found compatibility to be quite good and many games were playable. Actually I didn't have any problems with every game I tried, though I must admit I didn't test a whole lot of games.

The games ran at full speed (with sound) on my Celeron 900 Mhz., so if you have a similar or faster PC you shouldn't have any problem either. A Pentium III 500 Mhz. is the absolute minimum requirement to play games. The Gameboy Advance is a 32-bit machine so emulating it requires more CPU power.

Super Nintendo - ZSNES

This is simply the best Super Nintendo available. It's ultra fast and should run at full speed on any Celeron or faster PC.

It also supports Super Nintendo features which are very hard to emulate (and which were unavailable just a while ago), like DSP1 emulation (Mario Kart), SuperFX emulation (StarFox) and now even C4 emulation (Megaman X3)! These features make ZSNES the most compatible Super Nintendo emulator available.

The sound is also great as ZSNES allows some special tricks like sound interpolation and a low pass filter. You can get 44khz Stereo sound with ZSNES, but you must have a fast PC for that.

Ports of ZSNES are also available for DOS and Linux. Please visit the homepage of ZSNES it you want to download these ports.

NES - FCE Ultra

FCE Ultra is back again on this site. When I started this site I added this emulator, which at that time was only for DOS. But I removed it later again because I didn't think it was that good. Since that time however FCE Ultra has gone open source (which means anyone with the right skills can contribute to it) and it has been ported to Windows.

I tried it again after a forum member told me he thought it was good - and he was right: FCE Ultra has been much improved and is a great NES emulator now.

Unfortunately in November 2002 the author of FCE Ultra, Xodnizel, decided to stop working on it as he feels most major goals for it were reached and he has lost the desire to continue to work on it. But don't let this discourage you - although we may not see any new versions, the last version is still one of the best NES emulators available.

Playstation 1 - ePSXe

ePSXe is considered to be best Playstation emulator. It plays most commercial games so it wont let you down.

Tip: Make sure to also download and configure the plugins & playstation bios otherwise ePSXe will not work!

Playstation 2 - PCXS2

World's first Playstation 2 emulator. This is the first PS2 emulator that slowly shows us that commercial games might soon be fully playable! As you might recognize from the name, it was developed by the team behind the PS One emulator PCSX.

It was developed by reverse engineering PS2 demos, which isn't an ideal source for developing an emulator. It simply is far from complete. But at least it's a start, so if you want to have a look, here it is.

That sums up just about any emulators you would ever need.

I wOuld like to point out it is not the emulators that are illegal, it is the Roms. There are homebrew games that are freeware, making ti not technicaly illegal..

Legally, you're allowed to have ROMs for 24 hours, and then you're supposed to delete them. I'm pretty sure that's what it is, or something else.

I've removed the links. This thread is not only acceptable, the work put into it is appreciated. However, the sites provided link to other sites which do have ROMs. If you were to edit in direct links to the files themselves, there wouldn't be a problem. The reason that the guidelines restrict emulator sites is because they almost always link to ROMs or ROM sites somewhere, such as the one that you were using.

Sometime later I'm going to download all those emulators, host them myself, replace the links, then merge this thread into the emulator discussion and void all the comments after it. Yay.

Thats a lie made up back in the day. Nintendo even denied it.

Your going to want to get a really good computer, cause my computer has some trouble running N64 roms, and I just spent a couple thousand to put it top of the line.

I downloaded Epsxe and I gotta say, it runs really well on my computer. I got medievil (after i lost my damn original version) and have been playing it. Only thing missing is a gamepad. Anyone have a good allpurpose computer gamepad, with perferably a good amount of customizable buttons?
