“Shu...yiin,†Lenne cried out in a soft, serene voice.
Shuyin having heard Lenne’s cries, had crawled sluggishly over to her. They were but a finger’s length apart when Shuyin Spoke:
“Lenne, I need you to...†Shuyin’s stopped as he began coughing up blood. Lenne reached out with her hand, and wiped it away.
“Need me to what?â€
“Wake up.â€
“But Shuyin, I don’t.â€
Shuyin interrupted Lenne “I don’t need you to understand, Lenne. Just, wake-up.†Tears had begun to shed from Shuyin’s eyes. His voice, which was normally calm, was full of fear and sadness. Just then, Lenne began to hear a whisper. At first, she thought it was her mind, beginning to lose its grip on reality. She tried suppressing it, but it seemed that the harder she tried, the easier it was the whisper to influence her. Finally, they grew to such an extent, it was almost as if someone was yelling in her ear “Wake up.â€
As the voice grew louder, Shuyin began to fade into nothingness. His usual tan skin tone, had now grown as pale as that of a ghost. Soon, his entire body glowed with a bright aura, that was blinding to the eye. Then, before Lenne could react to what had been happening, he had completely disappeared. Lenne, who was remorse for the loss of her lover, called out “Shuyin,†but alas, no reply.
A pulling sensation had filled Lenne’s entire body. Pain, agony, whatever she had previously felt, had disappeared. She slowly began to stand. She had no understanding of what happened, but, she didn’t care. All she cared about was finding Shuyin. Suddenly, a blinding light had appeared across the platform on which she stood. At first, she averted her eyes, but the light seemed to be forming some shape. Shuyin.
Lenne tried calling out to him, but no voice arose. She tried again, nothing happened. She began running to him, but, it seemed the harder she tried, the slower she ran. Shuyin mearly glanced at her, and began walking away. Now in tears, she continued to try and call out to him, to no avail.
The light which had once surrounded Shuyin, had now surrounded her. She felt as if she were in two places at once, as she slowly began to disappear. The last thing she saw, was the saddened expression, of Shuyin’s face.
“Lady Lenne! Lady Lenne! Wake up, please! Lenne!,†a strange women, seemingly old called out.Lenne slowly forced her eyes open, but closed them immediately at the site of the light. The women, seeing Lenne’s reaction to them, quickly dimmed them.
“Lady Lenne, you’re awake.â€
“Where... am I?†Lenne mumbled.
“Milady, you are at the Zanarkand Memorial Hospital.â€
“And Shuyin, where’s Shuyin?â€
“Milady, who’s Shuyin? You must have been dreaming. You have been in a coma for several months. The doctor’s believed you would never wake up. I am glad they were mistaken.â€
“Oh... I see.â€
“Milady, you must be very tired. Why don’t I go notify the doctor’s of you’re... condition, and you can get some more rest?â€
Lenne had not replied. The lady began to walk away, when Lenne reached out for the women’s hand.
“Thank you.â€
The women simply smiled, and walked away.
Lenne had closed her eyes. She had been crying as she slowly entered a dream, or reality, in which she was all too familiar with. Slowly, she began to feel the same sensation as she had earlier. In her mind, she was constantly thinking “Shuyin can’t be gone. He just can’t be. After all that happened, and all that we’ve been through, it just can’t be.â€
Then, she slowly levitated down the platform at which... it ... had happened.
She called out Shuyin’s name, but only an echo replied..
“He’s not here.â€
She had about to begin to resume her search, until the same, mind-boggling sensation had happened. This time, at a much faster rate. Before she had time to react, she had reawakened.
“Shuyin...â€
“Delusions, perfectly normal.†A doctor nearby said. Lenne had ignored the remark.
“Where is Shuyin.â€
“Lady Lenne, Shuyin is a dream, created up by you. The world you lived in, the people you met, the experiences, they were all created by you.â€
“Your lying!†Lenne yelled at him “Shuyin is not a dream, he’s real!â€
The doctor reached into his pocket, and held out a small piece of machina:
“Lenne, do you know what this is?â€
“A Memoris...â€
“Correct. And do you know what it does?â€
“Isn’t it suppose to bring back lost memories?â€
“Exactly. Deep within your sub-conscious, is your memories of life here. I am going to use this Memoris to retrieve those memories. Then you will see that Shuyin is but a dream. Lenne had no objections, since she knew that Shuyin would be there with her. The doctor slowly placed this behind Lenne’s neck.
She seemed to have no reaction at first, then, her eyes heavily closed. She reawoke in a strange darkness, then a blinding flash of colors appeared. In what must have been moments, she felt as if she was repeating life. Shuyin was nowhere to be found.
“But that means...â€
She had fell asleep once again, and reawakened next to the doctor.
“Lenne, I want you repeat after me: Shuyin doesn’t exist.â€
“Doctor, is this really necessary?â€
“Yes, if she says it herself, she’ll begin to believe it."
The words were hard for Lenne to say, but she had unbearably managed to mumble “Shuyin doesn’t exist....â€
“Very good Lenne.†The doctor, while still talking to the nurse, walked away âI need to keep her for some routine tests and analysis, but she’ll be free to leave in a couple of weeks.†Lenne no longer could hear them, as they left the room.
“ Shuyin’s a... Dream,†she said with disbelief.
That night, she cried herself to sleep, with the knowledge that the dream had ended, and Shuyin was gone.
