Alright, I'm interested on hearing some peoples opinions on the Civil War. Mainy:
1. Was it about slavery?
The two main points were slavery and states' rights. Both were equally important to the cause.
2. Do you consider the confederacy part of America, or a rebel nation?
Of course it was a rebel nation, that was the whole point, to become a seperate nation. It did in fact (sort of), daftly named "The Confederate States of America." It had its own president and currency.
Then again, I suppose who you ask and what you go by, you will get a different answer.
3. Was the Union justified in attacking the confederacy?
Well, as Bam said, the rebels attacked first.
But to say it was
justified is all relative. Obviously, slavery is wrong, but back in the South, it was needed. They felt their life nearly depended on it. The Union couldnt understand it becasue they were all factories and manufacturing.
Bah, Im not saying it was justified, at least not by todays standards. The Civil War was terrible, there is
nothing worse than a country dividing and fighting against itself. But the South had logical reasons for its rebellion, not limited to slavery. They were treated like garbage by the North, the treatment they received was less than unfair.
Hah, I sound like a country hick who is racist and still hates the North. >.<
4. This is a little more recent, but what do you think confederate flags represent?
I'll post my answers later if some other people are posting.
Once again, its all in the mind of the beholder. To some, it means nothing, but to others it means a loved heritage. To me, it is a sad reminder of how weak this country really was.
