K, I need some info on this.
I have dial up and sometimes it runs fine but most of the time its gay and lags all the time when playing Warcraft. What is compression of data or whatever? does this affect the signal and if i turn it off will it help? I need some info on how to get this better, any solutions?

Incase you can't read I said Warcraft not Diablo.

I've used adaware, SpyBot S&D and norton AV and got nothing and I have Zone Alarm running. Could ZA cause my internet to slow down at all?

Your lag is due to your 56k, they always lag, period. Only reason you weren't lagging before is cuz it wasn't on your machine, but it was on everyone elses.

Hate to sound rude, but get with the times, I'm sure there's SOMEWHERE to get high speed, if they offer Dial-Up, it usually runs with a high-speed offer as well.

BTW, Where do you live?

Scan for viruses using Norton, you may have a program living inside your Temp file or Windows that is eating your bandwidth. Norton should solve that! However, some viruses don't get removed so do the following.

-Clear your Temp file COMPLETELY (stops about 60% of viruses)
-Look at your Event Log for the files location, delete it if necessary
-If a .dll file program is viral and it cannot be deleted, unregister it!

Being on dial-up will definitely make it slower than being on broadband, but he's saying that he's experienced a worsening of performance lately, which is something else.

Here are some things you can try:

-- Delete all temp files (c:\windows\temp\*.tmp)

-- Delete temporary internet files (c:\windows\temporary internet files\*.*)

-- If you use I.E., click on Tools, Internet Options, Delete Files, select "delete all off-line content", click OK

-- Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, Systems Tools, Disk Cleanup

-- Download AdAware, check for updates, run it and remove whatever it finds

-- Download Diskeeper and defrag the hard drive

more like delete your temp folder contents ENTIRELY. You could have a program that is eating at your broadband.
