I think this would really help get our name out there again even if we all suck at the game, after all our goal is to get new members not gain respect. Anyone else think this would be a good idea? I'd be willing to join a wc3 clan even though I suck at the game and haven't played in months.

Of course the hard part of this would be scrounging up enough people to start a clan.

Well, I don't want to say it, but we've tried it. I've tried organizing competitive teams and public clans for the forums, they always die without real support from the forums. The Diablo, Warcraft, Starcraft clans worked some, but everyone was always already in clan or was never around. Though I always thought it was a good idea, and a very effective way to increase traffic.

little-cheeze, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Fucking *cough* (For those that can read it).

This thread's been ignored or delayed more times than the WMD intelligence reports in Iraq pre-invasion.
It'd probably be more effective if most of the members were able to see it. I really don't see the point of putting something like that in the VIP section if you want input. Your thread is also about dedicated servers for games, not clans. I believe having both would be the best solution though.

So everyone can read it.
People have been saying we need something to offer to make us unique from every other gaming site out there.

Why not offer a dedicated server for games?

This would need to be something that's reliable, is not going offline completely at random.

This would generate a completely new market of user traffic, allowing for new positions for moderators and users to help people out having troubleshooting issues, and bringing in a fresh crowd of people.

I've seen it on numerous other gaming forums I'm a member of, and often having said gaming servers will increase all aspects of that particular forum, not just the troubleshooting section. Many people go to some of the Counterstrike and Day of Defeat forums I'm a member of just to shoot the [fecal matter].

I just get infuriated when I go to some of these other gaming servers to complain about something, and the administration are complete arseholes. I know BF lacks such arses in it's administration, and would love to see it put these other guys out of business.

I'm currently an extremely avid Day of Defeat: Source and CounterStrike: Source (Only for Zombie Mod though ) player, and would be on EXTREMELY often (I have about 70 hours logged for the past 2 weeks on both games). It'd also be a way I could continue giving to BattleForums.

I'm specifically asking Kinkarso if there are any sponsors that are already offering this, and we're not taking advantage of it? I know something like this was done in the past, however I am offering to maintain any Day of Defeat: Source servers.

I have some potential resources for getting my own personal steam server setup in the near future, and I'd be willing to slap the BattleForums logo on it after it's passed some wear and tear tests, however if there is an affiliate we can tap, that will give someone full admin access, that would work as well. I'm running on a T1 connection, so bandwidth would not be an issue for me.

Have you guys forgotten? I had server sponsorships for Counter-Strike and Counter-Strike: Source in 2004-2005. It did generate some added traffic, and was definitely useful in creating a community base. You can probably get a sponsorship easily enough.
If you want a server just find a willing sponsor.

I'm down with doing some type of clan setup. Especially for WC3 (which I also suck at and haven't played in a while)

As for gaming servers, I'm currently personally looking into the following with GameServers.com:

- L4D (8 Slot Public)
- DoD: Source (20 Slot Public)
- CS: Source (20 Slot Public)

Works out to $78/month, however, we're thinking that just getting a server ourself might be better provided it's stable. Hopefully we'll have this figured out by the end of the month. I'm just waiting on some quotes and specs from a couple quality hosts.

Counter-Strike: Source (boring, dying - CGS)
Day of Defeat: Source (never alive - die coRtALos)
L4D (why not, at least while it's still popular)

Team Fortress 2 would be a good pick, it's still receiving updates from Valve and has an active community.

Nobody plays games on Battleforums.
That's bullshit, no one plays the same games on Battleforums.

We need to make the Battleforums steam community official, and list it on the website. We've had one up for over a year, but it's only coRtALos and a few of us. Oh, and fix the name to "Battleforums" without the Inc. in the title.

Maybe if we can get enough people and can get organized enough we can have a BF gaming night so it would be easier finding other members to play with.

Yet another good idea that probably won't be implemented. :frown:

We need a complete staff revamp (again) or just some type of new general leadership.

Are you insane? I've been staff for years, it's useless without a general direction and some form of leadership, which we'll probably never have. The current owners are milking this place for money, the previous owners were absent.
