I know this should go on the Star Forge website, but I can't post there for some reason.

Anyway, I can load some maps fine, but when I try to create a map, the box to choose stuff (Map name, size, type, description, and terrain), but when I click ok, starforge just freezes. I was hoping someone could help me.

It also does not allow me to open up some maps.

EDIT: Yes, I did download the common controls.

Make sure you've chosen valid fields, like size and everything like that.

It has to do with how random the terrain is. I think if you put 0% then they all use the same tile. On the other hand if you use a higher number it looks more like the terrain you would see in the normal editor.

The freeze problem should have been fixed since v1.0.2 in all but space tiles on the installation tileset. Does this happen with EVERY tileset/terrain combination? What about if you select null tiles? What were the exact values that you used for size, name, description, etc?

Clutter % is actually how cluttered the tiles are (surprise). The staredit default is 5%, but SCMDraft and older versions of StarForge use closer to 50%. The easiest way to see the difference is to create a badlands map with structure as the default terrain with 100% clutter, then use a large rectangular brush with 0% and notice the difference in the tiles that it selects.

Clutter % should have no effect on the freeze problem, by the way.

Any map that StarForge will not open (with the exception of protected maps) you can send to maps@teamse.x-boxnight.com.

Yeah, I figured that out by myself! Woo! Anyways, if Heimdals suggestion doesn't work, then we've got a stumper for even the creator.

OK, It can open up maps fine, but it just can't create them. Here are some SS's of what happens when I try to create a map (I cut out unneeded parts to make it smaller:

The second screenshot is useless to me. If you had clicked the more information link, that would supply a little more useful information.

It sounds like the error is somewhere in reading the data files. You do have broodwar installed, right?

Try reinstalling starcraft and broodwar.

Let me know what your results are.

For some reason, certain versions of Windows XP/NT/ME will have this problem. One user reported that installing the latest service packs from microsoft fixed the problem.
I installed the Windows XP SP-1 Express recently, and I can now create maps in StarForge without any problems. So I'm guessing that one of my ntdll.dlls were corrupted some time ago. The version in the c:\windows\system32\ folder is 5.1.2600.1217. There are others, in backup folders and stuff.
Of course, you could have seen this yourself if you would read the StarForge troubleshooting thread.
