Starcraft: UMS or Meele?

When Blizzard Made Starcraft What did they have in mind?

When Blizzard made starcraft, what do you think they had more in mind, UMS or Meele? I know some of you are going to say something about blizzard making it with both in mind, but What do you think first came to there mind?

I'f say most likely melee. It's a RTS after all, the campaign wasn't all UMS Maps or anything. Melee is the normal game setting, so I think that intended it to be more towards Melee.

The game would have had the same intention as warcraft II, which was the competative strategy game. UMS were an afterthought

One kickass afterthought at that. Which then spawned the apparently better WC3 editor (Which i've never used).

The warcraft editor is basicly what they used to make thier champaign, and has 100000 more features.

Although I would like to vote for UMS, it was a Melee-intended game (I think), but I also think that blizzard knew what they were doing when they added in all the extra features that you can use to make different maps. I, however, never thought they would imagine what it would become today.

UMS saved SC, otherwise it'd just be another dead RTS, like so many others.

Question - Was the Campaign Editor the best in its time? I'd like to think so.

I'd just have to agree with both of Renzo's posts. Starcraft was intentially designed to be a better warcraft 2, UMS's are just a bonus they threw in while creating the game. Which ironically saved both of the "starcraft" games.
