Spelled: "evolution"
We stood up when we stopped walking with our arms. Probably around the time when we started manipulating things more we began to need our hands for more than walking. There was also a process with the hips, neck and knees that occurred when we began to walk upright, I know each was interrelated, but not the specifics.

I second that notion.

The most probable reason that I can think of for us initially standing upright is to be able to get a better view of things. Being able to see predators before they see you is pretty advantageous. That way you can hide or maybe spear them.

Well considering that 5 of 7 posts in here are pretty close to pointless I would say no. The initial statment leaves quite a bit of room for interpretation and it appears that few people are taking this thread seriously. If some people actually put intellegent arguments instead of 900's I think my ass comes from walking upright, this could eventually become a worthwhile thread. I think this is destined for the void, or rather it should be.

i just read the book called "inherit the wind" and it has somethign to do about this subject, it is a case of evolution vs. religion, its a good book, but i think evolution did happen because it makes more sense than being put upon earth by a divine being

i read a book on this called "Upright", and it said that we got a butt because we stood up, and it was a professor dude meaning smarter than you, meaning my statement is true.

Simply stating that you read something somewhere does not give credence to your argument, also can you post a link to this information. Not necessarily the text directly, but give a link to some place like amazon with a page open to the book. Also the way in which an argument is stated gives more weight to it as well.

For instance; Some vestigial organs found on humans have functional analogs in other species. Now it is generally known that humans do have a few vestigial organs. Also the way in which this argument is posed lends a lot of strength to it.

Here are a few examples of vestigial organs.
1. Second eyelids
2. vestigial tail
3. appendix
4. tonsils

Although some of these organs do have functions or proposed functions there have not been any conclusive finding thus far to my knowledge on this subject.
Although there is still some debate as to whether these organs are truly vestigial, the fact remains that they can tell us a lot about where we came from.

So is mine.

Oops, you can't prove that my book is or ISN'T real! Why? Because it is simply known as "a book." "A book" alone does not warrant substantial evidence. So, as Gedrin said, give some meat to your argument. This thread is on its lasts legs unless this starts to pick up.

"Upright" THE EVINDENCE

[don't double post, please ~ mac]

by the way read the "publisher's weekly" review it says "Other anatomical developments related to bipedalism include strong upper leg and gluteal muscles"

Note: gluteal muscles mean your butt.

[KNOCK IT OFF ~ mac]
