Spell Manipulation

I've been having some problems with getting spells to work right and I end up, more often than not, having to use triggers to aid in their effect.

What I'd like to know is how to better manipulate spells. I end up all too often just copying another spell and working from there.

I can't really get the spells to work differently than they already do. Like if I wanted Holy Light to hurt the living and heal undead instead of the way it is I'd have to use Death Coil instead.

How would I make these abilities work differently? If possible? I don't mind using triggers to set up my own spells but I'm afraid it will make the map take longer to upload on Battle.net. Should I not worry about it? What's the biggest problem that tends to make maps take the longest time to D/L? I almost have about 10000 doodads as well. I think I need to take some out.

Well gee, if you want it to hurt living and heal undead, why wouldnt you use coil...
And you cant really get spells to do different things, although there are tricky effects out there for spells (such as Impale)
And the main thing it takes for a map to dl is doodads/triggers.
