Well i was doing a little research in my spare time about PS2's and the new ones and why they are actually worth manufacturing.
After i while i came to the conclusion that since buying GTA: San Andreas which is a Dual-Layered DVD and playing it for over 40 hours total (My brother played it alot too), my PS2 began to screw up, and that's when i started to experience problems.
My PS2 was bought in August '02 so therefore it is one of the earlier models and is basically a piece of crap. The old PS2's such as mine cannot handle the amounts of information that have been stacked inside a dual-layered and when it tries to read the information on the second layer, the lens goes SO close to the DVD that it physically touches the DVD and scratches it, at least, that's what happened to mine. And from then on, my PS2 wouldn't play anything and made stupid grinding noises.
I used the tutorial posted my Lwek in the sticky to fix my PS2, and yes, it does work. Although my PS2 still does occasionally screw up and does some crazy stuff now and then, i still know that i can't play GTA: SA with a PS2 such as an old one like mine.
Therefore, unless you have a newer model PS2 from around '03 at LEAST, i would attempt to invest in the new slimline PS2's that have come out. It might cost a bit, but in the end, you can play dual-layered DVD's that kickass
Yes, some of you may know ALL of this already, so don't own me in your replys, this is the first intelligent thing i've had to say about a PS2 in...ever, so keep it light
