Allow me, for ONE moment to casuallly talk about games in general. As one of the WORLD'S leading authorities on the history of video GAMES (I have played every game that is worth playing since PONG) I'd like to make a prediction that the future of video games is in JEOPARDY. 10 years at the outside.
If you're old school as I am, then you'd know what I talkin' 'bout. Games have been getting DUMBED down since consoles have taken over the marketplace. The total gameplay time per game is a FRACTION of what it once was....translation: LAZY developers.
Don't talk about the graphics being more LIFELIKE, etc. because that is a GIVEN. As time progresses, graphics DO get better. It's NOT a good thing or a bad thing, it's just EXPECTED. Getting better graphics is as expected as one getting older.
As long as developers PUSH a 9 hour game onto the masses and the masses rush to plunk down $60 of daddy's hard earned money, then the games will continue to get lazier and lazier, more and more watered down.
Computer games have gone the way OF the floppy disk. Watered down console games have taken over. Computer game developers ARE forced to emulate console games (shorter gameplay, online gameplay, flashy graphics, more button mashing and LESS brain use, etc.)
WIthin the next 10 years you will see, MARK my words, the price of games increase 25%, the average total time required to complete a game come in around 5 hours, 100% games offer online play, and then a TOTAL implosion of the video gaming BIZ.
It's coming. In all honesty, I cannot blame the developers for CREATING crapola games. The masses have a taste for crap, they're just feeding them what they want. I blame the dopey kids out there who think that a $60 game that can be conquered in one sitting is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
WAKE UP people!!!!!
