Hiding in your closet...
Lately, I've been trying to breed my betta fish, but the environment has to be just right. I had my female next to the male's tank, and she had everything she needed. But, last night she totally jumped out of her tank onto my mousepad and died... I'm not sure if she was trying to get to the male, or if she was trying to get out to be in a bigger environment. Either way, Phinneas is now a bachelor and never going to get laid. Next time I'll put a screen over the female tank... =/

Anyone have bettas, or fish that have done this..? Advice..?

Nope, never had beta fish try to mate. I've had a beta fish once though, male, pretty vicious. Killed himself running into his reflection on the bowl. Dumbass...

Lol. Phinneas isn't really vicious at all. I put a mirror next to his tank so he can look at himself, seems mean to have them all alone. He just puffs up, doesn't run into anything...

Did you have a light source above their bowls? Usually fish will see the lights, and try to jump to them, similar to how bugs are attracted to light. In the process of doing such they sometimes fly out of the tanks. This results in a dead fish.

The only other thing would be that she wanted to attack the male, and thus tried to get at him a little too hard, also resulting in a dead fish.

Fish can commit suicide?? o___O

I've never owned any before, but I was told not to overfeed them - especially if they're goldfish. Apparently, they have no brains when it comes to feeling full after feeding.

Maybe if you put a plastic fish inside the tank to help your fish with some self loving...?

I didn't have a light near it, other than the normal source on the ceiling. And females aren't the ones who are hostile twards one another... But, who knows...

Emo fish... =/
