Simpsons or Family Guy? Which has most humor potential?

The Simpsons thread in Chit-Chat got me thinking.

Which has more potential to be funny? Most people have seen both, and know some of the stuff from it, but to me, it seems like a lot more people quote FG stuff rather than Simpsons. Is the Simpson family dying out and the Griffin family taking it over?

It has a potential to specific auidences. Simpsons is more for the whole family enjoyment. While family guy is more directed sexually and deals more with 'adult' or older issues.

It isn't what/which is funnier because we all have our opinions noone can tell you for a fact which is funnier but can voice their side.

they are both kinda equal but i think Peter is dumber than homer and with the flashbacks I think it gives family guy a better chance of being funny

they are coming back soon. prolly early 2005

The Simpsons appeals to a somewhat younger audience than Family Guy does.. and, considering that each human being is differnet, they both have fluctuating humor potential.

I prefer Family Guy though. Gotta love the baby, LoL!

Family guy has a larger potential for humour, it is targeting the more mature audience but people are just plain tired of "Doh!". Family guy doesn't have the massive history that the simpsons does.

Simpsons are all the same jokes repeated in different patterns. Family guy is newer and has a long way to go before it gets "old".

Exactly.

I myself converted from being an avid Simpsons watcher to watching Family Guy on Adult Swim every chance I get, despite the fact that I've seen most of them, since they are repeats.

IMO, Family Guy's way of going about being humorous is much more appealing than the Simpsons.

I especially love Peter's flashbacks :p

I'm tired of the Simpsons because my brother has it playing every single time it's on -_-;; I haven't really seen Family Guy enough to compare the two, though. From what I have seen, Simpsons is just getting old, and Family Guy has more potential. I guess I just kind of "grew out" of Simpsons humor...Family Guy seems funnier now.

Well there is also another show that left the air about the same time is family guy that is funnier than the Simpsons, but doesnt compare to Family Guy... Futurama.. What a great cartoon.. Most of the users on this forum are probably more partial to Family Guy and Futurama; because of their more adult oriented themes.. The simpsons has just grown old after seeing every single episode.. But i've seen all 3 cartoons and every episode thanks to DVDs.. Heh... but i still find Family Guy and Futurama more fun to go back and watch again and again. Only some simpson episodes hold the replay value that Family guy and Futurama have.

about the quoting thing. Its not that Family guy is better then simpsons. its that Family guy has a different type of commedy. simpsons does funny things that hurt themselves and make trouble whatnot int here cartoon. Family guy tends to make jokes (reletevly retarded granted) that are good to repeat

Family Guy because its more adult oriented allowing it to have a wider range of jokes and humor than The Simpsons. Plus it was relatively new when it got cancelled so they don't have to repeat the same jokes over and over. I hope the new Family Guy will be just as god as the old one.

The "simpsons replay value" isn't as bad as people make it out to be but you just start getting tired of the simpsons because you have seen it like the 500th time, I really don't think I would be able to watch family guy that many times.

Well, my fav is actually Futurama, dunno why it's just so cool. Simpsons has been around longer and kind of settled in to a routine, and has qualities that make it classic, however the same style of joke seems to get used a lot. Family guy seems more for older kids/adults, and a bit of a ripoff of the simpsons, although stewie > maggie. I think family guy has a lot of room to evolve as it is newer, and isn't set into a specific style like the simpsons. Futurama is still my favourite though :p
