Earlier today, I beat a level 25 guy in solo on Warcraft III. Then I didn't want to jinx my next game so I loaded up my old Zsnes. I unzipped Secret of Mana again and played it.

I tell you, that game is really fun. Unique combat system with super cool melee combos makes this game worth while. Also, me and my friend often get on multi and play the game through, which is pretty awesome considering not many Square RPGs are two player (This one, Secret of Evermore and FF9 (Control setting) are the only ones I know).

I brought up this thread to discuss what you guys thought of this Square classic.

I've faced level 30 people before, no biggie.

Well, I have never played the game, but I assume it is real-time. And judging by how FF:CC plays, could SoM be a repetitive button masher? They could be similar, battle system wise, so you might also want to check out FF:CC.

SoM was the best Square game of the 16 bit era in my opinion. Bought it off my cousin for $2, then went over to a friends and played two player with it every day for 2 months. Loved that game. Then after that, I played it solo 5 times in a row. There went 2 years of my life...

Not really, you only need to press the attack button once, wait a while for the charge to get to 100% (if you mash during charging, you will do miniscule damage). For combos, you hold down the attack button the charge up the move then unleash it on an enemy. However, you need to train yourself in a weapon to use the charge-ups.

I myself played through FF:CC up to Day 6 alone. I didn't mind the button pressing and the micro. I mind the fact that you had to repeat areas and also you needed GBAs to play with more than one character. Kinda dumb considering characters are saved to the Memory Card.
