For all you SC fanatics, like myself, I have found the uber-godliest SC game (besides SC itself). It's a text game, so if you don't like MUDs, stop reading now.
You can play as any of 4 races (Zerg, Terran, Protoss, Infested Terran) and get all sorts of equipment and abilities. You can buy ships, and they have recreated all of the planets and their solar systems, which can be gotten to with your ships via hyper travel. There is space combat, with cool stuff like Carriers that have working interceptors, and Wraiths which can actually cloak, Science Vessels and Overlords which detect invisible, etc, as well as your actual unit, which starts off as a Ling, Marine, or Zealot, and can be reclassed later. DAs can mind control other people, DTs are invisible, Hydras can burrow and snipe, Lurkers can only attack while burrowed, etc etc etc. There are even some new classes, like Engineer for Terran, and new equipment, like Acid Explosives for Zerg. Also, you can get rigged up with cybernetic gear, like thermal eyes, a cyberdeck (lets you hack electronic systems), muscle augments, and other such things that are used in the actual game as upgrades.
A very, very worthwhile game. Takes a lot of time, but considering the fact there are a lot of SC fans who need something more, I had to post it. I've been playing for a long time, and it's extremely active most of the time. I would think any hardcore SC fan would find themselves absolutely amazed within this SC universe.
Step 1: Download GMUD from this site.
Step 2: Run the program after downloading it.
Step 3: Add world, with the following information:
Name: StarCraft Mud
Host: scmud.org
Port: 3030
Now you can connect to it whenever you want to. You can have as many different characters as you want. And keep in mind, typing "pk yes" makes you go un-newb, which means other players can hardcore murder you Also happens when you hit level 5. Once you're not of newb status, the newb portal which you should be using to level up fast closes. You might want to get full MEQ (Mission Equipment - you can never lose it, even upon death) before leaving newb status. A lot of people do anyways.
Hope you enjoy. I'm not affiliated with the game or its creators in any way. I'm not advertising for anyone. I have nothing to gain from this post. I simply think there are multiple people who are SC craven and would love this. If you don't believe me, by all means, don't play. I could care less
