Running DOS games on XP

Does anyone know how I can get an old DOS game to work properly on XP? I can get the game to work, the problem is that my processor speeds the game play up by like 100 times its normal speed, rendering it unplayable.

Any suggestions?

Emulators like DOSBox provide these options, but not sure how.*

Try setting the compadability mode to WIN95 instead of XP

Yeah I tried to use DOSbox but I really couldn't figure it out. I also changed the compatibility but that didn't do anything.

Back in the day I tried to play C&C on XP and had the same problem and almost cried. Then I downloaded VMWare and installed 98SE on it

Of course, now they have the XP compatible C&C...so no more hasstle.

It was a friend called First Decade. Which has really screwed up flickers on the first game. Which didn't even have Ctrl + 0 or 1. Also, didn't take into consideration left handed mouse configurations.

try changing settings to "Do not detect windows"

For the C/C or the DOS on windows? Cause I selected run in Windows 95 setup and 256 color mode and it fixed the problem for the earlier games and SC.

change the program to not detecting windows, some versions of dos are not recognized by windows, so if its an old old game then thats the problem.
