i am useing armor for example here. say i wanted to make a engima does it matter wat defence and wat type of armor it is aslong as its 3 socket

yes. you can only make runewords in normal items. (the white 1s). if the irem is rare,magic,or uniqe the runeword wont b made and it will b a waste of runes

i know that but say for engima the armor u make it outta has standed 100 defence would it still have around the same defence if u make it outta a 400 defence armor

no it would be less...i belive that the "enigma" runeword adds 761 defense to the base sooo if u had a 100 defence armor it would end up at 871 defense...and for the 400 it would end up around 1200...so ur definitely gonna wanna find some decent armor

the way i see it though, unless you are making a barb or a pally using enigma a low str req norm armor is not that much different, yea u are losing around 400 def but any char besides a barb or pally has crap for def anyways. basically take your biggest str requiring item, subtract roughly 70 str (approx str from enigma) and that str number will be what u want to spend str on.
a nec wearing a breast plate enigma will get hit the same amount as one wearing an archon enigma. for low def chars its all about blocking and damage mitigation i.e. DR, damage absorb (Energy shield, bone armor ), damage taken goes to mana.
