No RPG game is complete without status ailments!

You can be poisoned, cursed, confused, berserked, virused, silenced, blinded, or turned into a frog. Not very good things to have!!! At all, tell me what are your 3 least favorite effects in any RPG game or game in general. I play lots of Final Fantasy, so if its an effect I never heard of, explain it with also why you hate it for all three!

Alright here is mine:

1. Confused (Any Final Fantasy, especially later levels and FFT): Yes, the confusion spell. It renders your character either spinning around or loss of functionality. This person will attack anything: Himself, another monster or even a teammate. The worse game for this is FF7. If confused, you could be equipping the 2x or 4x Cut materia. BAM! You killed your party!
Whats' worse, taking 1000 from a monster or 9999 from a teammate.

2. Charm (FFT). Yep, this effect is a pain in the ass too. I tend to have female casters, and nothing beats getting your teammate converted and forced to revive other people who do like 400 damage to your characters in one hit!

3. Zombie (FF6). Makes you instantly killed and forced to attack your own teammates. You don't get exp or ap and when revived, you stuck with low life. However, a boss fight in AAwful Fantasy forces you to do this. A boss that is super hard to kill (Fragmaster) Requires you to have all Jump characters, and leave a person down on the ground with Zombie. That way he is forced to attack it while your characters are up in the air. Zombies cannot die :D.

Definately confuse. If I got a dollar for everytime I was confused and it cost me the battle even if one character was confused, I would be really rich. However, posession is another deadly one. What it does is makes all your damage effect a target character that the monster cursed. Goddess uses this in FFVI to some nasty effects, as my Ultima didn't beat her up, it obliterated Locke instead. Sad story.

im going to have to say sleep. Not because of the ailment itself, but the fact that ive played against bosses who cast sleep every like 4 rounds...so when you finally have someone to attack, they put you to sleep again. Luckily there are things like insomnia to keep you alive.

Simple to counter that in FF8 actually: Junction these spells:

Pain, Break, Confuse, Berserk.

All you will take is slow, berserk isnt much of an issue so you can have death there if you want. Just do the damage and Malboro will eventually fall.

Yeah, sleep can be annoying. Especially in FFT, you are out for like 40 rounds until you get hit physically. If an enemy is affected by it, burn the enemy or cast spells in the meantime!

Confuse i always hated. For FF7-10

On Tactics, though, Charm never hurt me that much. My best people who do about300-600 damage are either my main character (Cloud) who is immune to almost everything with Angel ring, My Blue Mage i dont have to worry about too much. My Ritz (fencer-assassin), the other character.. she is Sniper/Archer, and another vierra all have ribbons, or close to it.

So. frog would come next, because on the FF7 Gold Saucer battles, frog was annoying.

And. berserk. if a spellcaster is berserked, their useless.

See how I feel, I had to fight a Tonberry under Frog status. My item command was broken. Luckily I had a mastered Transform to revert to normal. Then I quadra Freeze him and put him under stop. Then slayed him :D, got 24000 points ;)

Ribbon solves this thread hands down. I wish there was a ribbon that could do the things that the ones on Final Fantasy do. I would never get sick.

However, some effects must be negated other ways! FF9 doesn't have that kind of ribbon, you need to use crystals to learn things like Locomotion, Antibody, and Jelly. FF8, you need to junction status spells to defend yourself. FF7 and under, you need the ribbon. But it doesn't protect you from everything. Like Instant death, which in FF7 that can be fixed with Destruct ->
Added Effect materia in the armor. This combo will allow you to utilize the Cursed Ring without having to die from Death Sentence! The alternative is to cast Death Force.

That isn't a very effective stat-atk. These three work on most monsters in that game: Blind, Slow and Silence. Mostly slow though. You can render a monster unable to hit you right, cant cast spells, longer AT wait. They can still cast abilities, but they may miss if its a phyiscal effect like Heave or Slam.

Petrifiy most annoying status effect in FF1. One hit from a medusa and then your one less member until you use a Golden Needle which aren't cheap.

Well i use it on low-mid level monstars that i stock up on magic on. after drawing 100 i just let someone w/ death junctioned kill it instantly. but i always seem to forget to unjunction them, even in boss fights, lawl.

And i have silence and blind on my stat-def. along w/ berserk. confuse only when i'm hunting marlboros :)

If you have 100 Pains. It covers Poison, Blind and Silence in one swoop.

Ribbon + Rigged Terra = never die. She reflects Death magic and is healed or negated by all the others. No status effects her. Shes unstopable! But..I can't do this with Magus, Chrono or Robo, since they are each oriented in different stat patterns and not into mixed stats respectively. Magus is Magic, and Speed. Chrono is Power and Speed. Robo is power and Vigor. Bleh.

Pain can be collected from: Elnoyle, Ochu (lvl 30+), and Triface (lvl 30+)
