I thought it might be a good idea to make a news thread, post any news you have, try to make it a nice format (if not I'll edit it and make it look fancy anyway).

Revolution on TV:

Monday May 8th, 2006 - (7:00 PT/ET - 8:00 PT/ET)
Attack of the Show E3 Preview
An hour of what to expect from E3 including previews and predictions.

Tuesday May 9th, 2006 - (6:00 PT/ET - 9:00 PT/ET)

Wednesday May 10th, 2006 to Friday May 12th, 2006 - (6:00 PT/ET - 9:00 PT/ET)
E306 Live Attack of the Show Specials
Coverage of all that the three hosts see and play at E3. This includes booth babes, fanboys, free stuff, cosplayers, and games. With the way G4 is going these days, expect about two hours of booth babes and an hour for everything else.

Right off Nintendo.com

  • Sophisticated Design. The new console is approximately the size of three standard DVD cases stacked together, and it was displayed in a variety of prototype colors at E3. The console will come with a sleek silver stand allowing it to be displayed vertically or horizontally.
  • Backward Compatibility. Revolution will play all of your favorite Nintendo GameCube games. An innovative self-loading media bay will play both 12-centimeter optical discs used for the new system as well as Nintendo GameCube discs. You can also equip a small, self-contained attachment to play movies and other DVD content.
  • Huge Historic Library. Revolution will have downloadable access to 20 years of fan-favorite titles originally released for Nintendo 64, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and even the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES).
  • Big Names. Nintendo announced that new franchise properties will be added to current super-star franchises including Mario, Zelda, Super Smash Bros., Donkey Kong and Metroid.
  • Wi-Fi Freedom. A worldwide network of Nintendo players can gather to compete in a comfortable, inviting environment using Nintendo's newly announced wireless gaming service, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
  • The specs: The system boasts 512 megabytes of internal flash memory, wireless controllers, two USB 2.0 ports and built-in Wi-Fi access. A worldwide network of Nintendo players can gather to compete in a comfortable, inviting environment. Revolution’s technological heart, a processing chip developed with IBM and code-named "Broadway," and a graphics chip set from ATI code-named "Hollywood," will deliver game experiences not previously possible.

I don't like Rayman much, either, but there's only so much you can 'improve' upon movie-like graphics, anyway =/

You have to remember. Nintendo's campain is the "everybody" campain 'cause people can't get it through their thick skullz and the media that that's always been what Nintendo's been about, so they're gathering all sorts of fashion fads, age groups, and such and sticking them in their promos.

It's kinda like what Verizon did when they introduced their new In Messaging. They had a boy, a bit older, dressed kinda like that...but without the spikes being a foot tall o_O;

...or are you talking about 'Mr. Curly'?

Sweeet, Metal Slug Anthology! Nintendo has my money already. And, Resident Evil? I wonder which one, hadn't heard anything about one coming to Wii.

(Working Title) generally means...NEW! Most of this was recently announced at, you guessed it, E3!

EDIT: In fact...here's some more info!

The Capcom folks are a sneaky bunch. Just last week I ask a good friend of mine in their PR department, "Come on, I'm your buddy, your pal, your friend. Who loves ya? So, um, are you guys going to announce Resident Evil for the Wii? I mean, it's the perfect system."

"Well, Matt, sorry to say, we have no Wii announcements at E3 this year."

Of course, that's what my Capcom friend had to say. That's her job and damn if she didn't do it well.

When I saw the Resident Evil press release this morning, naturally I was stunned/elated/near fainting.

"So it's going to be an original Resident Evil title. But what does it mean, Andy, what does it mean?," I asked my fellow producer.

"It means... we wait," he replied darkly. Thank you, Mr. Shakespeare.

No screenshots. No video. No other info. Yes, alas, we must wait, engulfed in a mystery that will no doubt continue into 2007.

Speculation

We heard it yesterday on the E3 show floor from many -- the Wii Remote and Nunchuk controller have transformed Madden Football. The reaction to Resident Evil Wii may be similar. The controls could make the Resident Evil experience wholly original.

How will the game be expressed on the Wii? With Red Steel and Metroid Prime 3 we've caught a glimpse of what the FPS genre will be like, but if the success of Resident Evil 4 is any indication, it may suit Capcom to produce Wii RE using an over-the-shoulder perspective. The obvious sweet spot will be weapons usage, but if Capcom fully utilizes the controls they're sure to think up totally new approaches to such genre standards as a beast leaping out of a dark dooway. The Wii remote could also be used any number of ways -- a steering wheel or flashlight, for example (pretty much no brainers to be sure).
