Racism

In your opinion, is racism inherent or circumstantial?

I think it's more circumstantial because there's always some circumstance or event in history that has caused racial hatred.

definately circumstancial. your not born hating a certian race. your raised that way, under circumstances

but ifd by inheritant you mean parents teach you.. thats DEFINATELY a big part.

Yeah, the parents and society have a lot to do with it. But, the parent's racial hatred is just a product of a society where racism is a commonplace. When Africans were enslaved, the generations after always so saw them as slaves, so they developed this feeling of superiority over them.

i think it's both. the parents raise the child to think certain things about certain races, but the child's own experiences make them racist too. so if the kid is white, they might dislike africans because of their parents, but if they are picked on by mexicans in the childhood, they are going to grow up to have certain opinions against mexicans.

My dog always barks at black people. I never told my dog to be this way. As far as I know he's never been mis treated or even around many black people.

I was born and raised a nice christian .... Now I don't believe in god and am kind racist. I have black friends but hate almost every black person that lives around me.

I'd say it's definitely circumstantial. Whereas society may have influenced whether or not you are racist towards a particular group, I think it's mainly due to what your parents teach you. There are people who grew up in the same areas as I did that are racist, but my parents always taught me acceptance, so that's just how I am.

In a sense, though, I think it could be inherent, since there are always going to be people hating other people for whatever reasons.

Anyway, I think people get annoyed with some black folks and then say they "hate" black people because they saw a couple of them doing somethin wrong. Racism is all about Judging others and sterotyping.

I have family in the Arian Brotherhood...but I'm not really racist. There are times when I have my thoughts, but I have had black friends. I just can't stand the whole "gangsta" image thing...

I think its circumstantial. As others have mentioned, you're not born hating another race. I do agree with the examples heartattacks gave, it's generally a kid's personal experience and how they were raised that would determine racism. Of course, Society in which they live in also plays a big part.

racism is influenced by society you live in. yet you can be racist cuz of something real small like how they usually smell. racism is caused by everything and cant be stopped so they are inhereted and circumstancial. racism will never stop. ppl dont know how to settle differences and live in harmony. we are barbaric in a way. we of all animals get corrupted and kill each other for fun and for business. i have stopped being a "proud to be racist" and now i jhust dont like maoris becuz of the way they act. i like nice maoris though.

I agree. Most black people who live in my town are just ignorant people who think they are all tough and rapper scenario. It pisses me off cause there was one kid who would literally jump people for fun if the person was outnumbered.

if u wanna no wat maoris are read my sig. i developped a sense of hate towards them wen i moved here a few weeks ago. thety smell and they are juwst too ignorant. the rapping shit and all. the music aint just hip hop. there is pop rock etc. d-12 is kinda like the hip hop leaders but usher who does discography/pop is near the top on the most popular music board. hip hop still seems a bit beta than trying to sing pop in front of your friends. i dont know why but it impresses them. more than other music
