aiight i have 2 questions
#1 does a2 merc aura raise a lvl when they go up a level?
#2 if clone diablo is dead and you join the game will it still say he walks the earth?

1. They don´t gain lvl on their aura every time they lvl up, there is a gap.

2. Yes, it does.

I always take time to lvl up my merc and take it in normal since the aura will be ~2 lvl´s higher than merc taken in hell.
