Today in bussiness class i was bored, and thought about old dupes, then i remembered one that i thought of, and how ppl said it wouldn't work.

Somewhere in that thread- ^ -, someone said that the item dissapears.... I've played d2x since 1.09 (somewhere around grade 7, 3 years ago i believe) and i've never seen an item get deleted whitout me leaving game, and then the "game" gets deleted, and everything in it. So i would just like to know if the item does get deleted, and if so...how and why...?

And if the item does not get deleted, where does it go?

Doesn't using the cube/switching hands have it's own buffer? Even if you leave a game it will stay in the buffer.

The item just disappears into the pool of all the items on B.Net.

You know how you delete a file or document and it goes to the recycling bin? What if there is a sort of 'Item Recycling Bin' on Diablo II, so when the item deletes it is still in a remote area somewhere in the game. If this did exist would there be any way to tell it was there?

Okay....no flaming since I am just trying to add to the thread and I am not claiming to be a programmer but....

My best guess is that diablo's file system works like an access database or sorts. That might explain why your character (not your account) is the single key piece of detail as it might function as the key reference key. EG, in the old days you could move a character to another realm but not the account itself. Duping is in effect generating new lines of acceptable data with linkages. The fact that you can dupe items but not characters (even just character names) tends to support the view that the character is the reference key.

Now...items might get created in games, but in games that are unstable or become corrupted, the linkage between the reference key and item, just like experience, etc is never formally established. No linkage means the data is corrupt and the database discards any data missing complete linkages.

In other words...the item can't exist by itself.....it can only exist as part of a character or part of a game. Data from unstable links (to reference keys or games) must be removed routinely and might explain the delay after an unstable game crashes.

The items are not like files in the trash bin. Those files were accepted at one point as valid data within the OS. They have integrity and exist. Referential databases discard duplicate or incomplete data as an automatic routine in cleaning corrupt data following some pre-existing event. The Trash bin is meant to hold and maintain pre-existing valid files until a manual intervention.

Needless to say, if all corrupt and incomplete data were held, the files at Battlenet would grow enormously and do so with no purpose.

This is a bit off topic, but i was just thinking the other day, have people tried using dupe modules and stuff on npc's out of town, such as Flaivie near the cold plains? there could just be a slight posibility that bnet missed them somehowwhen patching.... just a thought....
