Question About MF (Magic Find)

hey guys, im a new member here (though i've been reading posts on this site all this time, awesome site ^_^).
I play diablo 2 LoD USWest Ladder, and my sorc has 399 mf.
My friend has 486 mf (we are both sorc's).
Weird thing is though, i find better stuff than he does.
So, it made me wonder.. did Blizzard put a cap on mf, or am i just getting luckier?
*long question short: is there a cap on mf?*

more MF should = better drops

but most find that moderate MF = faster runs = more drops = better drops

I found a shako with 0 mf and jim found a jalals with like 100 or somewhere near there.

Magic Find improves the % that each monster has of dropping magic items, rares, and uniques. The higher the MF, the higher chance of you getting these items is. All items are gotten by luck sometimes, so be patient and do many runs.

Example would be if a Fallen would have a 3% chance of dropping a magic item. If you have 400% mf, he would then have a (.03 x 5) = 15% chance of dropping a magic, rare or unique.

For the best results, kill uniques, super uniques, and bosses for these items.

I heard it's good to have around 300 mf because having more would greatly increase the chance of having magic items and only subtly change the chance of having uniques. So I usually have a little over 300 mf and do a crazy amount of runs (all night runs with bots =]) to get some decent items.

ok ok, get a hammerdin and get as hig a lvl as u can get 95 is awesome

then go mfing

-hammerdins pwn

my friend found a perfecthoz close to where izzy is off a fkn unique

then he found a dungos off smoene in the chaos runs

everyday ge pisses me off with what he findd that bastard,,, and i tried to do that but then path 1.11 came and now i just stopped playing... twas fun though ^ ^ take the advice

Harlequins (Shako) (25)
Stealskull (20 or so)
Whealth armor
SKullder's (~100)
Gull (100)
Goldwrap (30)
Chance Guard

Use your awesome math skills to add the mf up.

As I said, its luck. Mf just improves the chances of the monster dropping a magic item.

Occy+ist =80 and +3 sorc skills ^^So use that instead of gull or anything like that.

a hammerdon being a mfer? please, dear god, NO! no one has EVER done that before.


using items with gold find (chancies, Ali-Baba, wealth, goldwrap,rhyme) drasticly REDUCES your chance to find something. Instead of finding the item, you will find a pile of gold.


more mf does NOT make you have a better chance of finding a magic or a rare over a unique. Uniques are drawn first, then rare, then magic, then normal, end of story.


You people are morons. Learn how the game works before trying to tell people what to do and what to use.

A nifty early magic find item it is. A Gull in my opinion is a good way to start off.

Hell, I even got one from Coldcrow once lol.
