Question about Bugged MF helm

I was going to get myself a shiny new bugged mf helm, when my mate suddenly told me that it doesn't work.
He said he had a bugged mf helm (on a character with no other mf items) and didn't find sh*t on pindle. He made about xxx runs but still nothing.

So i want to know, does the MF on the bugged mf helm work or not?
