Heres something I wrote for my English portfolio:
Questing the Mind
By Joshua Drake
“Heaven, Hell, most religions take these two planes of existence quite serious.â€
“I’m not saying it isn’t serious, I’m just saying that what you are telling me is physically impossible. The things you claim you can do isn’t possibly in ever form of science.†The doctor looked at Jaden as if this were all a joke. Jaden knew the outcome of telling his story, but he also knew what was going to happen to him if he didn’t.
“It only started a few weeks ago. I was never a popular kid, a matter of fact I only had two friends. I had a lot of free time, and most of it I spent with my friends Michael and Jennifer playing with different theories in science. Well, Michael and I decided to play with currents when things went horribly wrong. I found that this experiment would be our last. We were charging car batteries and trying to control the flow of electricity just to make an arch, something just to show off with. We have tried it before and it work successfully, but for some reason something went wrong. We powered our generators and the arch caused more of a strike from both the positive and negative sides. The charges hit both of us, killing Michael instantly. When it hit me, something much different happened. Something impossible.â€
“I woke up after the blast to a new world. A new plane as I call it. The ground was glowing amber, and the sky was red as blood. There were strange creatures all around me, as if I was transferred into a horror movie. Only one of these creatures noticed me as it began to charge. It had mouths, aligned one on top of the other. As soon as it was close enough to strike, it halted in somewhat of an eerie fashion. I turned around to see another human, just like me. He raised his hands and my body seemed to follow, floating in the air. I was picked up like a feather than dropped back down just as easily. The man grinned at me, but soon lost his expression as it formed into more of a grimace of pain. Confused, I asked, ‘Where am I?’ The man answered, ‘You are now in Hell. It isn’t often that we see a human here, normally when the wicked are sent here, they are in the form of their sins. I am Minion, servant of Damien, the ruler of the entire underworld. Tell me, how did you get here?’ Scared, I answered him as earnestly as I could. ‘I don’t know. I was working on something with my friend and I woke up here.’ ‘I sense great power in you. You are the second mortal to ever enter the gates of Hell. Me being the first. For you to have entered here, you must have unlocked the greatest secret held from all mortals, the human mind. To have entered here unscathed, you must have unlocked the first hidden function of the brain, the ability to walk between the worlds. There are many more talents you may possess, but for you have been able to that, you must be the hero we have all been waiting for, finally, the damned may rest.’
“Unsure of what he was talking about, and who Damien was, I continued to interrogate Minion. ‘I thought that Hell was controlled by Satin, as God controls the heavens.’ He seemed a bit frustrated, but continued to answer my inquiries. ‘I thought the same thing when I found this place. If it weren’t for Damien, I would be dead and have been transformed into another of these hideous beasts. The man you refer to as Satin, was named Lucifer. Evil never dies, but it can weaken, as it did when Lucifer had his only son, Damien. Damien was born in the real world in the early 18th century, known to many believers as the antichrist. Back in that time, people were paranoid of everything, especially biblical. As a child, it took many men to destroy him. Like Jesus Christ, he was crucified. The difference is, that didn’t kill him. At the age of 12, Damien laughed as the nails where being driven through his wrist. Then the men tried to burn him. This only angered him, the whole congregation was slaughtered by one look of his eye. Miraculously, a young priest managed to stop him. He was banished from the earth and sent to Hell with his father. Damien grew up in hell, tormenting the damned, growing stronger by the minute. He eventually murdered Lucifer and took his place. Then I managed to find my way here, different circumstances than yours, but same result. Damien saved me from the beasts, for he needed a servant. He needed someone to bring fear into the sinners.’â€
“I was shocked by the story, as I was given thousands of year’s worth of biblical mythology. After this, he began to teach me how to open my mind to more of the abilities hidden in humans. We practiced for hours, and by the end of the day, I managed to learn how to move things with my mind, and even create fire using nothing but my thoughts and emotion. Then I saw the most hideous face. More frightening than all of the creatures around me, but it was still human. ‘That is Damien, perhaps you should leave now. Come back, I have a request I would like to see you fulfill when you return.’ Damien then grew angry and threw Minion without blinking an eye or moving a hand. The next thing I knew, I was in the hospital.â€
“I woke to the sounds of doctors telling Jennifer that I would be alright. When I asked what happened, she told me with melancholy eyes, ‘You were in a coma. Michael is dead.’â€
“At this point, I was very afraid. Questions build up inside my mind as to if what happened in the dream really happened. When I got home I focused on book sitting on my table. I concentrated hard, imagining the book moving in my mind. I felt blood trickle down my cheek and chin as blood came from my eyes, nose, and mouth. Pains I had never experienced almost broke my concentration until the book finally lifted off of its platform. I cleaned my face, and then decided to try again, to see how it felt. Miraculously, I lifted the book with limited effort. I had complete control of anything in my house, and I loved it.â€
“I stepped outside, just to see how the rest of me felt. I focused on a small branch in the yard to see if I could set it ablaze. My whole body felt hot as I brought the branch to smoldering amber. My face didn’t bleed out this time, but when I felt my face, then my head, all the hair on my body was removed. It was as if it had been burned out from the roots. Even more power driven, I knew for a fact that I could set this world to flames.â€
“I stepped back inside to see Jennifer greet me. She took one look and the fear of my disfigurements caused her to run. Unaware of the consequences, I focused on her, lifting her in the air and setting her down in a chair. The look in her eyes was nothing less than a look of complete horror and agony. It only took a moment for the lack of blood to her brain to kill her. At this point, I wasn’t ready to be on earth anymore. I had managed to slaughter two of my friends, so I knew from that point on, that I was not in my place. On that note, I envisioned the hell that I had dreamt about. That was all I had to do to enter the gates of hell. Like I had hoped, Minion was there to greet me. ‘I have some disturbing news. Damien is taking you in to be his new slave. I am to be executed at once.’â€
“I looked over Minion’s shoulder to see Damien, dressed with an evil smile. Minion looked over at Damien, and then burst into flames. Instead of the big pile of ash that I was expecting, out came a beast. Minion was the largest of the damned in hell. He looked at me and howled as he unleashed a large ball of fire in my direction. Panicked, I thought of the projectile and redirected it back to its owner. Minion cried as he was reduced to nothing but a mountain of dust. ‘Impressive,†Damien said as he walked towards me. ‘Now, strike me down with your fists.’ I focused all of my energy into my arm as I took a swing at Damien. The impact was enough to break my knuckles, but only enough to make Damien laugh. I dropped to my knees and cried in pain. I was amazed as I watched my bones set back into place and the pain went away. ‘That kind of aggression may work on mortals, but it will take more to serve me. Don’t worry; I’m not going to allow my slave to be without a hand.’ Damien winked as he began to instruct me how to fight properly. Little did he know that teaching me would be the mistake to lead to his demise.â€
“I focused all of my powe into my fist, and envisioned my actions. I struck Damien again, this time Damien fell down gripping his chest. Now I made the mistake to resurrect him into the real world. I charged him and brought us both back.â€
