ok im really used to playing games on my old comp that was custom built, only used for games, and had a cable modem. it was awesome, I never had lag, and i could alt+tab in and out of the game in the blink of an eye, and it never mattered how many other program or windows i had running in the background.

now lately Ive been trying games mainly WC3 on some friends Dell computers using Dsl connections and well frankly IT BLOWS!!!! the game takes a few seconds to load up and as soon as i enter the game whether its single or multi the mouse lags to poing where game play is almost impossible, and if i have even one window or messanger open while trying to play i can just forget it.

now what is up with this. I mean Dells are suposed to be somewhat decent right? and dsl is supposed to be like one of the best connections to use. so why does it just plain SUCK. So far ive used like 3 of these comps and have gotten basicly the same results. and it makes me relize just how nice my custom pc and cable modem was.

so basicly im just looking for some tips to get better game performance out of these commercial computers.

Yes, Dells are never supposed to be "good". Dells are better than gateways, but they aren't "good".

Remember, that when you are playing games, you always rate your computer by the graphics card. The faster the graphics card, generally, the faster the game will go.

It isn't just a "Dell". That is what most people in the world fail to understand. How much you pay = what you get. When you pay 3000 dollars, you don't get a "Dell". You get a P4 3.03 Ghz, 512 MB DDR RAM, Geforce4 TI 4000, etc....

You cannot rate a computer on performance by just stating "Dell". Dell makes many different computer models... -_-

Dell's are cheap, thats their only decent claim.
You forgot that they also market making computers easy to use (much like AOL).

Ya, but I was just trying to illistrate a point. Computers are not as much based on the brand that produces them, but the parts inside them.
