You take a normal ethereal; (Non Superior, Non Low Quality, Non Magic, Non Unique) armor and add sockets with the horadric cube. The result is an armor that gets double ethereal bonus, effectivly upping its defense.
For example; Say I find an ethereal dusk shroud with zero sockets, it has a defense of say 600. I socket it in the cube and volia it gets 1 to 4 sockets (depending on armor type) and 1000+ defense. Great canidate for stone, fort, or COH.
It is also worth noting here that using the cube to socket item does not always give max sockets, so it is likely that you could end up with a 1 os armor with 1k defense
Eth bugging works on shields, helms, armors etc. but it IS a gamble so just be aware that you could get a 1 or otherwise non desirable # of sockets when using this method.
Note: using a socket quest does NOT invoke the ethereal bug.
