To start off, my warcraft 3 CD is legit and CD-Key is also store-bought, the only catch is I lost my RoC CD a whiles back, so when I reformatted my computer a few months ago, I actually had to zip up all whole WC3 folder and put it on a CD and then copy it back onto my formatted computer. So, there might be some problems there with registry key's not being there, etc. I'm not sure.

So I go to update my FT from 1.20c to 1.20d, if I do it ingame where it automatically downloads, it downloads it, and tries to install, but instead it says "An Error has occured, you might want to reinstall your Warcraft III and update again". Okay, fine. I go to download the patch off the website (the 100kb/s cap off the download site angers me), and it does the same thing.

I think I've encountered this problem before...but I forget now how to deal with it? Any ideas? If not, I might just rebuy the game once and for all, kind of sick of this :p

Comp Specs: (prob has nothing to do with it because my computer is pretty new)

AMD Athlon XP 2800+
512MB DDR
SP2
Win XP Pro
Radeon 9600

P.S. :yum <--- what's up with this creepy ass emoticon

I want to know why you zipped up your Wc3 folder? You need the actual RoC CD in order to successfully install it then update the patch properly! You can either get a cracked CD (which you cannot ask for here, or I would have to ban the first person that tries to help you) or borrow the CD from a friend or just face the music and re-buy it.

You are in need of the registry keys.

Which can easily be collected when you install the game or a crack of it.

Except since he has it in zip he wouldn't have access to the registry keys.

Which is why in my first post here I wondered why the hell did he save all his files into a folder.

So he wouldn't lose Warcraft 3 and some people think things might actually magically work this way without any problems.

Which is why you take better control over where your CDs are. There have been like 40 problems related to CD Key or CDs just because someone lost it.

Okay..enough you two. Seems like you guys are talking more to each other than about what I posted. I don't want to start up an argument.

Anyhow, Hellwolf, to be precise, I zipped my wc3 folder so I wouldn't lost the game since I misplaced my CD, and yes, I'm stupid for losing them.

Basically, what I was hoping for was a way to get the registry key's (either nobody has come accross the problem I've had, or too little people have, so it wasn't worth dealing with). There are no .reg files in the Wacraft III dir, so I am thinking I've hit a dead end?

And actually, Auron, before FT updated from 1.20c to 1.20d, I was playing from the new Warcraft III folder without the registry key's ;p It just so happened bnet decided to update to screw me over (or if you would like, teach me a lesson, but I don't like being defeated :p)

My finaly thought is that I will keep checking back on this thread (if it's not already considered dead), to see if somebody has a miraculous fix. If nothing comes up, I'm going to try to get the registry strings and keys for anyone who decides to zip-up-their-wc3folder-because-they-want-to-reformat-and-they-lost-their-cd's

Regards,

Luthien

P.S. Auron, I have to agree with you "It is what keeps this place active though." It's people like me with new problems that keeps the forums rolling, :p.

Wrong.

Here.

Goto your Warcraft III registry directory using regedit (Start->run->regedit). (HKEY_CURRENT_USER) ->Software -> Blizzard Entertainment->WarcraftIII

Once you are in that, click right click, and "New String Value"

Name it "Install Path", and then edit the value of the string to the directory of where your game is (mine happens to be F:/Games/Warcraft III)

Woo, wee. Thanks, Venice. It worked and I think you should be put on a pedistal for coming up with a solution. Maybe you encountered the same problem as me, or you just had more brain cells functioning when reading this thread.

The problem has been solved.

Luthien, we couldnt get a good solution going and it doesnt mean you have to call us dumb with the brain cell functioning line. Also, you don't need to be formal, we are not 24 year olds you know.

Hanyways, thanks Venice.
