Parents and their kid's privacy

There have been alot of programs running around these days that lets parents know what their kids are doing/seeing/playing on the internet. Is this right?

I am strongly against it because if there is no trust between parent and son/daughter then there is no relationship. i have been in a situation where i had to earn my parents' trust because i have lied to their faces and they found out. that feeling is the worst in the world to me, losing their trust again is probably my biggest fear so i try to remain truthful and honest as much as i can.

if there is an issue about trust with your kids, you should go talk to them, not spy on them.

As long as you're under 18, your parents have full rights to knowledge concerning your whereabouts and what you do. Doesn't life suck? (This is in US at least)

i can see if you have a girl.. you want to know if shes having sex, and make sure she dont get pregnant.
or if the kids into heavy heavy drug use, that can possibly kill him, or screw him up for life. but thats it.

who cares what they see? if they grow up thinking nothing in the world is wrong theyre gonna get torn apart when theyre 18 and set free.

better to make your mistakes young, where your parents can help you learn from them. not good to make no mistakes when your young coz youve been sheltered and then make all your mistakes when your 18. then you have to figure everything out for yourself.

That is what my dad thinks due to some aim convos he read, he however is wrong... Doing drugs occasionally and doing them everyday are two way diffrent things.

exactly. just coming clean with him about occasional drug use and proof that its not harmful, or addictive may help convince him to stop caring... unless hes not that kind of person. then i guess you just have to live in hell for a year or two till you move out.

what terrible stuff should you be sheltered from, and why? nudity isnt something to be banned. you see half the world when your showering. theres nothing to hide, sex keeps our species alive why is it considered evil?

and as i said, if you shelter your kids theyll grow up thinking nothing is wrong in the world.

The #1 reason parents do it is to ensure you're not looking at porn. Come on people..do you honestly think that the computer at our home is the only source of pornography available? We have friends with magazines, videos, computers without protection..we have HBO..etc.

Besides..it's not like a 12 year old seeing a booby is such a bad thing? I think you should be worried if he's NOT looking at them.

i dont know if any of us can answer these questions untill we ourselves have children. I mean, now you might be thinking ill let my kid do whatever he/she wants, smoke, porn, whatever. But how many of you do have kids to really make thats descision about? Its not like your parents are doing it because they enjoy seeing you squirm, but out of care. Unless they really do like watching you squirm...But hey, most parents of kids 12-20 were alive durring the 1960's and 1970's and they have likely known people that have gotten high or looked at porn, heck some of them have done it before. Just act like you care untill you turn 18, then live your life.

uhh thanks i guess, what dont you agree with? i could change around what i think about the way parents take care of their kids, some parents are overprotective and go crazy when something happens.

Now, would you rather have overprotective parents or underprotective parents?

It's probably because the kids won't tell them what they do, or the parents don't even bother to ask, if they don't ask it's their own fault.

I think the amount of privacy you should be allowed depends on what kind of kid you are. My parents don't bother to ask or find out what my brother and I are doing on the computer because they understand that there are some things we are smart enough not to do. We've spent years building up trust, and we're probably not going to throw it away anytime soon (I, for one, enjoy my freedom). But if you give them a reason not to trust you, I say let them do what they want. After all, it's their right as your parents.

I guess I'll just have to wait until I have kinds to find out the truth, though.

My mom has found out the hard way what snooping around does, she found 3gigs of porn on my computer(MY, she has her own), she founds a bunch of conversations between me and my girlfriend saying we are moving in together, she found condoms of mine in my dresser, and she has took my phone from me and ended up losing me for two weeks...

My mom knows I do not play around anymore, I lived with it for fourteen years, her being a bitch to me. But the last two years she knows I haven't played around, especially the last six months. She says I am kicked out of the house, I take an extra pair of clothes and move in with my friends for a bit. Then two weeks later she will call wanting me back at my house.

I am the only one who treats my mom with the respect she deserves, which is why she loves having me here. But when she flips out about condoms and threatening for me to never see my girlfriend again, that cuts the line and I call her a ****en bitch, then she kicks me out of the house and I move in with a friend for a bit.

But lately if we get into fights, she says I am kicked out and I bad mouth her and say, "I'll be back at midnight drunk, see you then mom!" then she gets pissed, then see's that I do... She doesn't care about it anymore though, she's used to it...

But I do show her the ut-most respect, because she is my mom. Only time I do disrespect her is when she disrespects me, she has learned and I have learned. After everything the past two years, we love each other more and more each day... So she tries to stay out of my private business now.

Me and my girlfriend can be screwing in my bedroom and she will hear us, she will ignore it. I can be smoking weed in my bedroom, she will ignore it. I could be drinking absolute vodka with my brother, she ignores it. She gives me my privacy now...

All you guy's got to do is stand up for yourself, get some places to stay at for awhile, the parents will give in! I promise you that...

How can you put those two statements so close together? BTW; Ignoring it and giving up on her child are two different things.
