I know Jenny posted about this movie way back when it came to theaters for like 2 days, but I just finally saw it on DVD and I just have to say...wow.

This is by far the best movie I've seen in a while, there's just so much to it.

I love this "graphic adult fairytale" stuff, although frankly the "magical" aspect to it wasn't even half the overall movie.

It also didn't really bother me that it was in Spanish with English subtitles...I understood most of the Spanish, barely needed the subtitles, and after having seen it twice now I can't imagine the movie being the same without it being in Spanish.

Who else has seen it, and what did you guys think? I could dig up the old thread if I really felt like it, but I hate necroposting.

I don't think it even came to theaters? At least not in the big mainstream theaters. Probably some back ally....

Anyways, yeah, interesting movie. I hope to see it someday.

You haven't? God, I highly recommend it.

However, make sure you don't let yourself get fooled by the "fairytale" aspect of it and think that a little kid would like it. It's a really graphic movie, filled with gore and violence, with some seriously freaky shit in some cases. It deserves the R rating.

Lol seriously...he looked like he was made of rotten and moldy wood, and he creaked like an old house.

That damn "Pale Man" was freaky as hell though. I have a new addition to my favorite "disturbing movie monsters" list. Pale Man goes right next to Pyramid Head and Alien. =)

I liked it..can't say if I thought it was amazing or not as I'm not really sure, oddly. But ya, it was good.

I just think it was very in-your-face, very thought-provoking, and very well-made...I honestly think that if they'd done a single thing any differently it wouldn't have been what it was...

I don't know, it's one of those movies that leaves you with some mixed emotions...one thing is for sure, it definitely gets your attention from the very beginning...

it was a good movie. IT was hard to pay attention, since it isn't a multitask type movie (have to actual read subtitles.)

It was good that it wasn't some big fantasy movie about wizards and the bullshit as such, Good acting, good direction, pacing was really well done. Story and script were good (though like I said it is hard to tell since i only read the translated subtitles.)

I probably will someday. I know what the movie is like, and that interests me.
Good, R ratings are where its at. Kind of like what Alien vs. Predator was suppose to be.

I just watched it last night.
****ing awsome.
it wasn't THAT gorey, but the part where he smashed that farmers face in with the bottle was pretty cool.
half of me felt like.. it was all her imagination, that it was the only way for her to deal with everything that was happing to her, but on the other hand I felt like it couldn't have been... becuase she drew the door to get her brother, and after her mother burned the root she started bleeding again..
there was deffintlly alot of forshadowing, wich I love.
the very end was awsome though, no he wont even know your name. bang your dead, ****in douche bag.
great movie, loooovvveeed it.

subtitles never bother me, Im very good at reading them and watching the movie due to years of anime watching.... I hate watching forgin films that are dubed. it pretty much ruins it for me...

@Hobo_Ted's first question: I'm pretty sure that pretty much the only thing that mattered to the Captain was leaving his legacy, keeping the family name. He respected his father a lot, for the soldier that he was, and wanted to pass the watch down to his own son. It's probably the only endearing thing about that horrible man.

@Hobo_Ted's second question: I think it was sorta both...events sorta spliced in, and everything she did that was magical left its reasonable marks on the real world, like the mandrake root under the bed, and the chalk outlines on the walls.

@Pan: yeah, the acting was awesome. I watched it twice in succession, and the second time through I really looked at it all again, and the acting was superb. Really, everything was amazing. Even the special effects looked so real, so concrete and solidified in reality. Like when the Captain sewed his face up, it looked so real...the attention to details was just awe-inspiring.

In my opinion, this was about as close to a flawless movie as I've ever seen...I mean, I'm not usually the best movie critic, but this thing was just...I dunno, I think anyone who can handle some gore and violence, and a bit of disturbing imagery should see it.

I can't read the second question so on the first question.. He repaired the watch because his father smashed it to give the time of his death and claimed "This is how a real soldier dies" so anyone who had heard the story would assume that whatever his name was died with his legacy as he judging by his sons feelings towards him neglected or thought down upon him. So his son repaired the watch and took the "legacy" back up. Im thinking it's also possible that his dad fought on the other side of him in the war.

The second question is readable when you quote the post. For some reason the Spoiler tags only work the first time you use them in a post, more than once and the following ones show up blank.

What he asked was pretty much just the "was the fantasy real or just in her head?" question, and that's pretty much a personal interpretation thing. It's not defined, although the lines are blurred enough to suggest that it may very well be real, although of course it could just be an invented world in her head...

Actually, no. Back in Jenny's thread I said I hated it, and gave a good reason. Just don't feel like remembering it or finding it.

Lol, I suppose it is entirely your right to dislike any movie you wish, although I'm pretty much loving this one, which is actually unlike me...usually I hate shit that does things any differently...

I think the Pale Man totally biases me though. It's just fackin cool.

Pan is the name of the Greek god, who is represented by a satyr. therefore you get pan's labyrinth
