I was messing around in PS trying to duplicate an painting technique that MacMan was trying to explain awhile ago. Here's how it came out. Just a sphere, but any suggestions are good.

Nice. The only gripe I have is that the shadow looks odd. It's great nonetheless. 9.5/10.

Looks like a marble on a table. But it still looks pretty cool.

8.5/10.

Looks good. Do you have anything in mind that you want to do for real?

What do you mean "for real"? That hurts... :( I'm playing around sort of doing cloth studies right now. Is that real enough for you?

Anyway, I know the shadow kind of sucks. I didn't feel like spending much time on it, so I just did a gaussian blur. Looking back on it, the whole thing looks a little better with a blur...I guess that's sort of cheating though.

I mean, like, something you need to plan out in advance :)

I'm not understanding the concept here...you are trying to make an image using nothing but a simple brush in PS? If so, I don't see how you did that.

They say only a man with insane tendancies can draw a perfectly straight line...which is why I'm rather confused right now.

JD, you really can do absolutely everything in that picture with only brushes, but Badver is just using brushes to paint it in.

Beager, I'm talking about sketching something and scanning it, or sketching something with a brush, and then painting that in. Try this: don't use a white background. If you know what the general color of your piece is going to be, make that color your background and then paint in the white highlights/black shadows + any additional colors. Or try painting it with a black background.
