OT: Computer keeps restarting!Please help

A friend of mine had gotten that virus/bug or whatever that keeps restarting his computer. He downloaded all the updates but none so far worked. Any ideas on what causes this and how to remedy it?

you install all the drivers and stuff? does it show up in the device manager?

that sounds like that old worm, reformat and install latest drivers and windos update, try to get a firewall and an antivirus, try to reinstall ur soundcard

the problem i had was blaster worm.
Symptoms: ur comp only restarts when ur on the net, and you may get a box with nt error stating you have 59 seconds before restart

is't there a new version of blaster worm or another worm that works just the same way?
Anyway just go in 2 failsafe and unplugg ure net connection and try 2 remove it first by ureself or unplugg net connection and install some virus protect in the normal mode. If u get the window that say u have 2 restart ure comp in 60 sec, then u can open a dosprop(commandtolken) on xp and write "shutdown -a" without the "". that will abort the shutdown.

And 1 funny thing u can do 2 some1 on a LAN when u both ahve xp start dosprop and write shutdown -s something like that then u can shutdown some1 computer from your comp very funny if he's dont know u can do this and he i like wtf is happning

you go start execute, then enter "shutdown -a" and then you ahve unlimited time to delete the poorly protected worm. in task manager close msblast.exe and delete the msblast.exe then. then d/l all updates fro windowsupdate, finished

the newer version of blaster worm cant have the shutdown diabled, but you can adjust the time it takes before restarting.
Tech support guy had me set mine to 5 hours before restarting.

ctr-alt-delete and close msblast.exe then download new drivers. Thats what i had to do when i got it.

yeah, I had that, weird thing was it was right after i had already reformatted, so I ended up reformatting twice. My cousin then got it a week later, so she called the tech support people, and they told her to put the red disk in, lmfao, do they know what they are talking about? I was kind of mad at my cousin for not reading the cd that said, Start with this cd for restore.

Yes, the restarting time has been delayed though I believe the virus is still up there. The anti-virus is being stupid and can't sense it. I believe the worm is called Kaleka or something like that. All I know is that when the computer starts, theres something about an error caused by Ntrookit.exe

lol i had it too, as for the sound card guy, you prolly need the drivers, or your machine isnt detecting it

"shutdown -a" in the command prompt is the temporary solution while finding help. The new "blaster wannebes" doesn't show in the "Processes".. If you want to avoid it when you format c: / reinstall your windows, make sure that you have "Firewall" enabled in the network settings before you get in to windows (a window with network configurations shows up during the windows installation).
When you have your firewall enabled, you must get all the fixes, updates and shit from the microsoft windows update, before disabling the fire wall. Then it won't attack you.

It kinda funny when i was on a LAN me and my friend got it all on the same time like 10 computers on a raw got it simetanilusy (the same time). and it was when blaster was brand new and we all was like wtf is this
