Everything is basically the same only some of the gear may vary. Will this be for PvP, MF, Rushing? Makes a difference in gear selection.

Ok this is what I came up with for MF gear. Now you need to balance it with +skill items, resist charms, and Faster cast rate, so pic and choose what you want.

Armor: Skulders (P Topazed) or Chains of Honor Runeword (for added skills)
Shield: Splendor / Spirit /
Weapon: Oculus (isted) or Eschuta Templar (isted) for no auto tele
Helm: Shako (P Topaz or Ist)
Gloves: Chance Guards
Boots: War Travelers
Belt: Goldwrap ( this will limit your pots a bit) or String of Ears for D.R.
Amulet: Mara's or Metalgrid if you need def and a meatshield
Rings: 2x Nagel Ring for MF or Stone of Jordan for + skill (could go 1 and 1)

On switch use: Call to Arms for battle Orders and Spirit shield for the + to bo

Charms:
Sorc Torch, Anni, +1 skill Charms (about 3 since your MF you need the room)

I find that mf works well if you have about 260 - 280 mf% this should be close to that mark, if you need more MF or need +skills balance it out and see what happenes.

Just FYI in case you don't know:
Stats:
Str - enough for gear (about 90)
Dex - at least 50% block
Life - all the rest
Energy - none

Since your MF and PvM get a act 2 Prayer merc. This will give endless life regen. Gear him up with the following for D.R. Mana regen and Def.
Gaze (etheral) Chains Of Honor Runeword Armor OR Fortitude Runeword Armor (for def) and Insight (mana regen)

This will be a great meatshield for you, but don't let it kill unless it has to since your MF you need to get the last hit. Easy way to stop him from doing so is to tele in the same spot. He will be standing next to you.

If i wanted to make a sorc with two elements what would be the best way to go about doing it and what would be your personal build for them? it would be a non-ladder pvm and/or MF.

I'd say fire sorc with frozen orb, but that would mean you need ot go lvl like 99 lol!

1 cold mastery
rest into firebolt/ice bolt

Too many bosses are immune to cold and or fire, like hell countess for example IMHO only way to go is straight magical damage not elemental like a hammerdin. (yea I know everyones got one, but they work and work well.) I will make a list tonight and post one back for a duel ele sorc tomarrow.

Ok here we go, it's not huge on damage, but their is no boss immune to this do to all the skill trees being used. Bare with me here ...

Fire:
1 into:
Fire Bolt, Fire Ball, Enchant, Warmth, Fire Mastery

Lightning:
1 into:
Charge Bolt, Telekinesis, Lightning, Chain Lightning, Teleport, Nova, Static Field

Cold:
1 into:
Frozen Armor, Ice Bolt, Ice Blast, Frozen Nova, Glacial Spike, Blizzard

Now ... for skills of any use...
20 into:
Frozen Orb, (main skill) Thunderstorm, (for Immunes and a prebuffer) Cold & Lightning Mastery.
All remaining skill points into a fire skill of your choice (enchant would work well on a merc)

Stats: (same as most sorc builds)
Str - enough for gear (about 90)
Dex - about 50% block
Life - all rest
Energy - none

Gear:
You can go with the above if need be, but this will do a bit less damage. Might need a bit more in the + skills. I would switch out Oculus for a Heart of the Oak Flail (for the +2 and the spirit)

Merc: Act 2 Prayer
Gear: Insight, Gaze (poison die facet), Fortitude

Here is how it works.
Before leaving town cast Battle Orders, (from Call to arms on switch) Frozen Armor, (recast as needed) cast thunderstorm (recast as needed), Enchant merc, and off you go.

Your merc will give insane regen on life & mana. While he does fire, poison, & physical damage, you will do Cold (frozen orb) and lightning (thunderstorm)

LvLing up to 30 will be a pain but it is doable (i did it to some degree, lvl 48 before I quit 1.11)

If this is too much for you just go with what LeGend posted, (he knows what he is talking about) but, you will come across some cold/fire immunes in hell. That can be rectified with a good strong merc.

LOL! Thanks for the praise, I actually hate sorcs with a passion. I do however love paladins, Druids, and Necros.

Oh just a FYI ... (this you might know but what the hell)
When lvling up any character, get Full Sigon set. Socket the helm with a - to requirements jewel, the armor with a chipped skull, Shield with a chipped diamond, and use Khalims Flail (the full flail, heart, eye, brain, and heart from act 3) This will give you Duel leech for the weapon, duel regen from the skull in armor, lightning damage from weapon, faster attack rate, better resists with the diamond, and you can wear the set sooner without spending loads into stats. Just don't use anything that will make you wait to use the set past the required lvl or stats preregs.

You can technically wear this till you of higher lvl to use suggested gear, since you will not be meleeing, you dont need to worry too much.

Lastly, if you find yourself havinf some difficulty keeping your merc alive, you might want to opt for a metalgrid amulet, this will add buttloads to def, and if you like make a sweet metal golem too. (if this is done, try to get a item that gives + to a offence aura, life leech, poison, deadly strike, or any other add on damage. Try to stay away from your lightning and cold, since you will already do these elements, and will serve no purpose if you and the golem can't harm it.

Someone should make you a mod sir. A lot of your posts have helped me out. I just started playing d2 again, 1 or 2 weeks ago-ish. I completely forgot about the 1.11 patch and I'm a noob all over again. The sorc guide helped, almost always the best first character to make, poor or rich.

I don't see the point in modding. Don't want to deal with all that bull. (no offence to any mod) LOL. Like I said above I actually hate Sorc characters, the only time I use them is when the ladder resets, or I restart playing again, like you said.
I'm glad you got use out of this ... at least someone does HA!

What I do, is I lvl up the sorc fast (2 hours to get to lvl 30) MF my ass off for a few days till I have somewhat decent gear, Baal run to 50, nm run then I stop at about 75ish then only use her to MF. Once I get enough gear to trade, or use I make a hammerdin (best MF IMO) level him to at least 90. (got to love them, massive damage with almost no monster immune to it) After all that is done. I have fun with other characters. I love to make odd builds, not really new builds, just odd. My best one was my bear sorc did somewhat decent damage but took very little damage back. (great for PvP if that's your thing) Or go into Hardcore and make a Cleric Pally, (with this you will be everyones best friend there) which do very little to no damage but will massively increase def, and off for the whole team.

Let me know if you guys need any other builds. Just don't ask for kicksins, I hate em.

Me made a boo boos. Nothing big, I mentioned to cast B.O., Enchant, Frozen Armor ect in town ... I'm a doofis, can't do that in town. I reposted it in another thread to see what could be done about the gear and see if I made the best choices. The gear is based on lvling and PvP.

Kicksins rox Ive seen one that does 70k, with bigass radius covering like half of the screen.

On the other hand, why don't you add Orb synergy on that build? :S

I personally do not like kicksins, I dont see it as good as other meleers, and casting is really low damage compared to other casters. Also I figured to add to the damage of the merc, to balance it a bit with elements, but I guess you could add the extra points into the orb synergy, (ice bolt, or put 20 into bolt and 1 into cold mastery) just as easily.

I figured when facing someone that is immune to cold/lightning, the merc who does fire, poison, and physical could use a bit of a boost in the elements. All a matter of prefference.

Personally I think you should max bolt instead of mastery.. Don't think cold mastery works very well in hell overall =/

Probably right, but their is some unused skill points (98 out of 104) max the synergy 1 into the mastery, then rest into mastery when all else is maxed. That works just as well.
