Ok, so, Me and a group were doing the Cipher of Damnation quest in SMV (Alliance). We were at the very end, and when we got to the location we noticed that there were Alliance and Horde fighting him. So we hovered in the air for a little bit and decided what to do...

We decided to zerg the Horde and steal the Firelord for our own. When he got to about 10% life we all rushedin and started killing them. They got him down to 1% and I drew the last hit on the Tauren Hunter. The Firelord then switched to OUR tap and we ended up getting kill/credit for the quest :D

Discuss.

I did that with Durn the Hungerer, only because we were impatient with the respawn time. That alliance group tried to do it back to us, but we killed them while fighting Durn.

I'm not a fan of doing that. It's actually pretty lame, cause it's not like they can turn their attention to you. Generall, if I'm waiting for a spawn or something similar with a group and a group of the opposing faction is there taking it down, I'll start DPSing the spawn. One of two things is going to happen. Either the opposing faction is going to wipe, then my group gets the tap and we'll finish off the beast (because we were ready for it anyway) or they end up killing it and going off aalong their way making us wait less time for the respawn.

Unless I specifically know the people I am watching, I'll do either. If it's someone I don't know, I'll help. If it's someone I do know, they are getting a trinketed aimed shot in their face.

Yup, that's what I do usually. But I didn't with Durn, I just waited. The horde group wiped, and we grabbed the gronn.
