The Nintendo Revolution. The fifth console from the realm of the Big N. We all know it. We all know there are people in love with it. We all know there are people who loathe it. We all know that there are people still sitting on the fence about it. Regardless of what you have to say, the rave reviews of the 'Revolution'ary new system has piqued nearly all of our interests.
Nintendo owns the handheld market with the GameBoy, and they are dominating with the DS. They are doing superb with the GameCube, but we all know they want more. They are a corperation, afterall. They, like anybody else, are in it for profit. There is one unique thing about Nintendo, however. They also release only tested, tried, and true products. The Nintendo Seal of Quality means something real in this industry of video gaming, and they aren't changing a single thing.
Many were surprised upon seeing the controller for the Revolution. Many even thought it a joke. Some won't even give the reviews a look because they think that a traditional controller is the only way to go. Truth be told, I've fallen in love with this controller. I can't imagine, at this time, how it will actually work and feel, but rave reviews certainly give a positive outlook.
Nintendo has always had a strong first-party. The Mario and Zelda licenses are the two most recognized out there. If you hear about a new Zelda game, you can be sure there will be much clamor to follow. When news first got out that Nintendo was ready to announce their controller, you can bet many-a-party came expecting something 'normal'. What they got, instead, was a unique and first time design.
Third-Parties were, as one reporter put it, in sheer awe. Sega even picked up two controllers and asked Satoru Iwata if it were possible to develop a game so that one player would use two controllers at once. From what I heard, Sega recieved a smile and a developer's kit and the green light to do as they pleased.
This, however, is not what this thread is about. Why? This is all old news. If you haven't heard it, then I wouldn't be all that surprised.
Now for the point ^_^
We are here to imagine the possibilities of such a controller! We've gotten a mere glimpse at what Nintendo is planning, and I saw we go further and speculate. I saw we talk about what could be done with this expandable controller!
The obvious expansions are the 'nun-chuck' and 'shell' expansions. We don't want discussion on these unless it pertains to an idea. I'll present one, now ^_^
It was rumored for a long time that the new controller would have an LCD screen on it. This has never been disproven. What has been disproven is that the standard controller wont' have it. Imagine an expansion for games such as Zelda, Fire Emblem, or Crystal Chronicles that has an LCD screen on it!
It could even be touch-screen. Now this thing would probably have a decent $50 or $60 price tag on it, so I'm doubtful on the plausibility of it. It is an interesting idea, however. Zelda and Crystal Chronicles have the obvious mapping feature. The touch-screen would be very well utilized. A RPG like Fire Emblem could use the screen for inventory and maps.
There's my first idea ^_^ Present yours!
