I haven't seen too many topics of this nature here at BattleForums. So, I thought it would be interesting to see how people would react.

Of Archons and Khaydarin

There are several interesting things that I have noticed concerning (whom else?) the Protoss, the first of which regards those manifestations of the Protoss spirit, the Archon.

Of course, there are currently two types of Archons, those that are brought about by the bonding of two High Templar, and the other created by the sacrifice of two Dark Templar. The former Archon is known to emit tremendous amounts of psionic energy, supposedly because they act as a rift through which pure psionic energy can flow, resulting in a nearly impenetrable field of power and devastating energy shock waves. The strain on this being is probably tremendous to keep its form, as they rage over "the burning". Perhaps this burning drives them into a near psychotic state, as they are bent on complete destruction and mayhem, barely controllable. The Dark Archon, by contrast, needs to absorb tremendous amounts of energy to function, and complains of the lack of strength they possess.

Here is what I am getting at: the Khalai (those Protoss who follow the Khala and retain their psionic nerve appendages) need to have a flow of psionic energy going into them; they take energy from their environment. The Dark Templar, however, take their energy from the "Cosmos". As I see it, this Cosmic energy is omnipresent, and it may therefor seem like the Dark Templar are drawing their power from an invisible source, that they may even appear to power themselves. This is the opposite of what their respective Archons do! Khalai and Dark Archons need outside energy, whereas Dark Templar and High Archons seem to emit energy. Odd, neh?

(An intelligent young poster [Shroom Man 777] once said that the Communal Link acts as a regulator of psionic energies. As the Link binds all Aiurans, their energies course through one another. As a High Archon takes form, they are fueled by the power of the psi link, given great amounts of power. However, Dark Archon do not have the luxury of siphoning energies from a matrix, for one does not exist for Dark Templar.)

The second thing I would like to get to concerns the crystals of the Dark Templar and Khalai, respectively. The Templar armies utilize Khaydarin crystals in order to power their awesome technologies and facilitate their psionic energies. The Dark Templar seem to use crystals called Argus (the Argus jewel of the Corsair and Talisman of the Dark Archon). It may just be that Argus is just synthesized Khaydarin that perhaps is attuned to Cosmic energies. Who knows?

And finally, of the Khalis and Uraj. These twin crystals are laced with pure Dark Templar and Khalai energies, respectively, and the heroes of the Protoss were able to use them to harness the power held within a great Xel?Naga temple on Shakuras. The temple was said to sit atop a nexus of powerful cosmic energies. Now, whether it was meant that these "Cosmic energies" were the same that powered the Dark Templar or just natural manifestations of psionic energies is up for debate, I cannot say for sure.

Entropy and Creation

It was said before by someone who wrote a convincing?..fic, I guess you could call it, that the Templar operated on psionic energies of "Creation", whereas the Dark Templar used energies of "Entropy". Now, in scientific terms, the word "entropy" refers to the amount of "disorder" in a closed system; that is, in a closed system where all objects are at the same temperature, things are considered to be "orderly". However, if an amount of energy is put into the system, disorder is introduced because some objects will by at different temperatures than other places. The greater the relative temperature, the greater the entropy. The principle of entropy states that greater randomness (disorder) results from greater temperatures, while is also says that all objects will have a natural tendency toward uniform inertness (which would result from lack of heat). Confusing and seemingly a bit hypocritical, eh? I understood the seeming inconsistency at one point, but I forgot it now =p. Uh, I guess you could say that "Creation" is what opposes the disorder and chaos of entropy; the "Order". The Khala brought order to the Auirans, while rejecting it resulted in a continuance of disorder.

Wee, another thing to say in my Psionics Dossier to make Psionics fit so well into the everyday universe!

The Duality: A Phenomena Worthy of Note

Aiur, the birthplace of the Protoss species, was once a large, lush world covered in life, close to the system's primary, making it a naturally bright, thriving world. And it is here that a great field of psionic eneries known as the Psionic Matrix is generated. It is here that the Khalai once reined, and was without the taint of Dark energies for millineia. And it is here that the Xel'Naga first stepped foot on a Protoss-inhabited world.

On the other end of the spectrum, however, is the homeland of the Dark Templar, Shakuras. This is a dark, barren landscape, sight of the ancient Xel'Naga temple built ages ago upon its surface. This is the focal point of a Psionic Nexus, where psionic energies ("ley-lines") converge into a single point, an area of tremendous psionic potential.

These two worlds seem to be opposites in every way. Particularly, take note of the Psionic energy phenomena. Aiur emits psionic energies, a Matrix, whereas Shakuras is a place where psionic energies converge in a Nexus. Is it possible that the energies of Aiur travel through the galaxy and end here? If so, it may be imperative that both worlds be claimed to bring about an end to the Galactic War for Domination.

umm. nice. I only understood the first part and the part about the entropy, but nice. Judging from your posts at blizzf, you seem to have alot of time to discuss how the protoss function, etc, etc.

Darnit, the thing messed up my thread. Let me go back through and change all of those question marks...

EDIT: There, better. For some reason, posts don't always seem to show quotation marks as they should be. Ah well.

Yeah, I think about this stuff a lot. I just wanted to see if anyone here at BattleForums did the same.

Probably, but because of the long down time, there isn't much activity on the starcraft forums anymore. That was the case somewhat before the down time, but wasn't as bad then. Some of this stuff you posted only occurs whenever I play single-player missions.

I could understand it perfectly. Maybe you fellas are just not mentally ready for such things. And to think that I'm younger than most of you.

Weird how even a mod doesn't understand what he's going at. Sheesh.

Nice work VOK, have you posted this at the Omniverse yet?

Lol, you and Shroomie have been going at it eh?

Ah well, it's good. Certainly clears my mind from some confusion. Maybe this will be able to be elaborated enough to become an article that convinces stupid noobies not to make a archon made from High and Dark Templars.

This particular thread is often modified as I come across new information, and often like to post it in new forums to see the reaction.

Alas, I haven't talked with Shroomie recently. I'm not at all sure why.

Anyways, if anyone has questions that they would like answered, or just want elaboration on something, go ahead and ask. ^_^

...You got me there. =P

I have created one theory considering implicate and explicate orders in order to explain the origin of Cosmic energy, but it needs to be refined a bit. All I can say at the moment is that Dark Templar, Zerg, and perhaps even terrans make use of an omnipresent energy field in this universe.

When one gets right down to it, High Templar energies resemble Dark Matter, and Dark Templar energies resemble dark energy. The former created a powerful gravitational field, which naturally brings things together: trying to achieve oneness, communality. Dark energy, on the other hand, is the force that pushes things apart. It is chaotic and mysterious.

Gravity is found where there are material bodies, and High Templar absorb the energies of their environment.

Dark energy is found in the depths of space, and Dark Templar are natural nomads, their home being among the stars. They draw their power from the mysterious Cosmos.

We discuss StarCraft history once in a while, but as phoenix said, because of the two months downtime, it has been kinda dead nowadays. Just waiting for the domain to be fully fixed to do something about it.

Anyway, that's quite an interesting article, but I'm not sure if the Dark Templar use that so called "Cosmic" energy.

Because, well, in the manual, it was said that Protoss could talk with each other by telepaty. That might have been because of that one psionic nerve appendages you mentioned, but they also had to, most likely, use their own psionic energies to "talk" with others.

Dark Templars, however, do not have that thing, and therefore they had to develop their own psionic powers to be able to survive in the middle of a wasteland like Shakuras. It's, perhaps, because of that, that they can become invisible, and that their weapon, which, I think, is strengthened by their own powers, is so powerfull (pratically, 40 damage, the higher ammount of damage, except for the scarab, tank, scourge and Infested Terran). It's also because of that energy that the High Templar can storm the enemies.

Now, because they had to strive for their own life in that wasteland, and their energies are so wide, may be the reason why the Dark Archons are so powerfull, and why they are something like an old eremit.

I just made this up, but I like this discussion :)

Lol, I want to see your reply VOK. :p

Tronga, I'm not sure if you've actually indulged in more intellegent Starcraft theories but it's an accepted fact that Dark Templars use cosmic energy. I think it's somewhere in The Bible or a mission.

What do you mean, the bible?

And, yea, I know remember, the Xel'Naga temple is a nexus of powerfull Cosmic energies, I think. Doesn't mean that the Dark Templar used it, though.

I'm afraid I lost it...

Besides, the portuguese translation purely sucks (no, I'm not American, gladly).

but I'm not sure if the Dark Templar use that so called "Cosmic" energy.
The BroodWar manual on page 13 says: "These mighty warriors, drawing secret powers from the cold void of the cosmos, are able to bend light around themselves..."

There's the Bible (The SC manual) and the New Testament (BW manual). ;)
