I think the idea of using water would be neat. But there should be two differnet levels of water: -deep. -shallow(Duh). Units that can travel in water can travel in both excluding large water units. Another idea is that these water units can also travel on land, but the fault is that they have to change form in some way at shore, making them defensless temperarily and un able to attack. Though this may seem unfair for the ground units because they cannot travel in both areas, some will be able to travel in the sallow areas. Such as how this effect is possible in AoE(Age of Empires) or other Microsoft games. The idea of bridges would also be neat. I also support the idea of building ramps, even if they are temporary. Another idea to even out the water vs land conflict would to create early air units for all races.

early air units? i don't think it's a great idea since it allows very fast air rushes that will probably beat everything else, but, then again, thats just wat i think.

if there is water(though i really don't see why protoss would float in a raft if they can man a starship), then most maps should have water with connected water. Otherwise, one entires section of units would be blocked out because the map doesn't have water, or, all its water are in separate sections, not allowing much movements to the ships.

ramps and bridges would definitely give new ideas to the game. for example, in BGH you can't just defend the choke point, you also gotta patrol the shores.
