Okay I have Warcraft III: Frozen Thrown installed on 2 different computers both with legit cd-keys. Way back in the day we played on b.net and had lots of fun. However I reinstalled my operating system leaving Warcraft unknown to the operating system (Windows XP Pro). I can still boot and play it but cannot patch it because it isn't recognized in the registry. I can't reinstall it becuase I lost one of the copies cd cases. Is there a way I can recover the keys or restore the registry of the game?

what you said doesn't make sense at all. If you reformatted your operating system you would have to reinstall wc to be able to play it at all.

If you read closely I say I reinstalled my operating system. This does not mean I formatted it, and I didn't I just over-wrote the corrupt system files. If you boot an XP disk it gives you the option to leave the partition unchanged, as long as it is within the same family (NT, XP, X64). So Warcraft isn't registered in the registry, I was lookin somewhere else and a guy said you can add it back in, but I need help...

Well it helped a lil, but now I get this error?

Registry error loading key 'Warcraft III\InstallPath'
The system cannot find the file specified.

So I guess I'm still missing something.

Got to bored waitin so I messed around and by chance fixed it!
Alright I went into Regedit and right next to Diablo II registry folder added a Warcraft III registry folder and add a new string titled "InstallPath" modified the value to my Warcraft III folder and boom patch worked perfect.

Why didn't you reformat your hard drive when you reinstalled Windows? If you don't do that, then nothing will work properly

There are ways to get your key but I am not allowed to post any, and I don't want to either.
The thing is that u can't patch the game anymore without reinstalling. The registry entries on Windows are hard to edit, and are one of the reasons why this os can be virused so easily.
Anyways I have a question, because this is a 100000000000000000...... time someone posts something like "I lost my cd keys" issue:

What do you people do with the cd's and boxes after u buy the game? u pi** on them? I can't believe this, everyone loses the cd's and the keys, I don't understand how this happens. This game is only 4 years old, not to mention that those keys are required frequently

Collecting your CD key from the CD you bought isn't illegal. That is the only form of CD key related topics we are allowed to discuss here.

Besides, he was talking about REgistry keys found when you type regedit or regedit32 on the Run command line.

It is a hack program that gets the cdkey Hellwolf, that is why I said it is illegal. And he is asking to get the key from the installed game not from the cd's.

The thing is that games and programs generally add multiple values on multiple registry fields so that they couldn't get hacked and because they have stupid programers.
For example on Mac computers the libraries are easy to edit and to correct by the user (this is nice also because u can use some trial version aplications forever).

Think about it this way! If you don't use this hack, then you would have to ask another guy for a CD key on this board, that would ruin the whole idea. The hack there isn't illegal, since you are retrieving the cd key to your currently owned CD.

Alright, just let that be a lesson to you sir. It is recommended that you reformat your hard drive and have backups of any map files you wish to keep on a CD.
