Nat's Teleporting Barb (PvM)

I have a teleporting Barbarian in Ladder, and he is very good in PvM, so I decided to write how i skilled him and how I spent stat points. And I'll write here his ideal gear (imho), too.

SKILLS

MAX Whirlwind
MAX Spear mastery
MAX Shout
MAX Battle Orders

1 Battle Command
1 Increased Speed, Stamina, Iron Skin, Natural res
1 to all Pre-reqs

All the remaining points (put 1 soon, and just put here all the points after you've maxed all the other skills) into Berserk.

STATS

Strength = min for wearing your gear. Enigma gives a lot of str at high levels, so when you can wear your armor, you can wear all. Annihilus is +20 if perfect, so only a few points have to be spent into strength.
Dexterity = min for BotD eth Ghost spear (121 but you will have 2x Raven, Arreat and Annihilus which, if all perfect, give 80 dex, so dont spend so many points into dexterity until you have the FINAL gear).
Vitality = All the rest.
Energy = Base.

GEAR

BotD eth Ghost spear
Enigma Dusk Shroud
Thundergod's vigor
Arreat's face (upgraded, if you want) with ED / STR jewel in the socket
Laying of hands
Gore rider (upgraded, if you want)
Highlord
2x Ravenfrost

Note: To make exp and lvl up, the fastest way is making hell Baalruns, and in Baalruns nearly all enemies are demons, so the +350% ed vs demons from Laying of hands is an excellent bonus, not to count the 50% fire resist. If you dont want to make Baalruns, use Steelrend.

Note 2: You can use also an eth BotD Great Poleaxe to make this barb; in this case you have to max Polearm mastery, and not Spear mastery. I prefer the spear-looking weapon. :p


Switch: 2x HotO Flails.

Charms to use:

- Some small charms to max Fire and Lightning resists in hell
- Annihilus
- 5-6 Grand Charms +1 to Warcries + xx life
- Small charms with life/mana

Charms are very important for mana; when you teleport you need to have, with charms and after BO, about 800 mana or more not to suffer from mana problems.

The 2x HotO in switch is the best choice: you have 80 fast cast and can teleport very fast, and you also have +% max mana and +6 to all skills, very useful for your BO and Shout.

HIRELING

Might merc (Nightmare, Act 2 Offensive). He increases your WW / Berserk damage A LOT.

Cheap gear for merc:

Upgraded Shaftstop [Um]
Eth gaze [Shael]
Reaper's toll [Shael]

Expensive gear for merc:

"Chains of honor" runeword on Eth Archon plate
Eth Andariel's visage [ED / IAS jewel or Shael if you love the fhr]
Eth Reaper's toll [ED / IAS jewel]


And now you have a war machine. You can destroy all with this barb; it's very expensive to have the gear for him but when you have all he is awesome.

Only one problem: beware of Iron maiden. :p

sadly, all barbs have that problem, or else, they would be too strong...

a nice guide, the one thing is, if you use enigma, you need a fortune, especially if your WWing a lot, i mean, 5 durability on enigma = 546425742754 gold, lol

If I had those items I would make a barb but since I have nothing and I am poor, since I just came back, I will wait till ladder #2.

Quick ? though, instead of the eth ghost spear what would be another good choice particularly sword/mace? Ideas?

Mediocer? This is (apart for the weapon choice) the only build for a barb that makes him useful in a party... i.e. able to teleport in Baalruns (= fast runs, fast exp) and with great damage (= fast in killing enemies) and high level warcries (level 39-40 BO and Shout are very useful in party).

In party with a Hammerdin, I make 24k max dmg with berserk and 17k with WW...

Nice strategy.. I have a question. I spend most of my time on d2classic where crushing blow is being used a lot. Is it sucky on LoD or what? In classic you can use your bare hands and bring your enemies to low life EASILY with crushing blow..

Crushing blow is not used in LOD at all. If you use your fists in hell you will be raped and will continually have to find your body. :)

Another thing, barb's hardly have any mana. Your saying tele for fast baal runs, he would tele 10 times and be out of mana with base energy and those items.

I'd rather not use mana/charms. I'd rather save the space for skill charms or psn. Plus you could just stop use mana leach and kill something and be on your way again.

I think that psn charms are quite useless in PvM, their added damage is too little and slow to kill. :)

If you want to use swords, you have to use 2x botd eth colossus blade, if you want to use axes you have to use 2x botd zerker axe. Maces are not so good (thunder maul has horrible range even if it has high damage).

If you are going to suggest 2x Hoto flails on the switch, why not go with 2x +2 Barb / +3 Warcry Weapons? That'd be so godly....

Oh, you'll be teleporting with em! Ahh, nevermind. But come on!!! That would be SO GODLY!! Especially if they WEREN'T dupes...

Having +10 to warcries would be godly, I agree; if using runewords, you can have a global +7 to Battle orders if you use a HotO weapon (or a +3 to warcries weapon) + a Call to Arms weapon... in fact, Battle orders on Call to arms is capped at +3 if used by a Barbarian, but the Call to arms runeword has a +1 to all skills too... so, the total is +7.

+10 is godly, +7 is very good, +6 is the best solution when teleporting cuz you can also have the fast cast. :)

Yes, I agree with you on that. I wasn't thinking of using the flails in teleporting, though. (Shame on me)

Anyhow, I still can't remember who wrote that MeleeSorc Guide- you or EEX?
